RE: BEYOND EXCELLENT!!!

by Codfish at Citysearch

I called around noon to see if it was possible to get reservations for around 8pm. The gentlemen who answered the phone, Pete, was most helpful and was the very person to greet us soon as we entered the building. I have to say, this place is positively stunning. The warm earthy tones with splashes of turquoise was beautifully atmospheric.

We were seated and a lovely young woman named, Rachel, was our server. This gal was not only professional, but warm and endearing. It was so nice to be in an atmosphere of luxury without the pretense. Rachel explained the entire menu to us and made wonderful suggestions.

I ended up ordering the New York Au Poivre and my partner ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. The presentation on both dishes was quite simple and the portions were unbelievable- Really unbelievable.

My partner had stated that the Sea Bass was some of the finest he has ever tasted. My steak was enormous and flawlessly cooked. I do like my meat Medium Well and many times chefs and broilers tend to over do it, but this steak was truly flawless. The seasoning was so prefect!

Mitchell's is one of the nicest experiences we have ever had in Columbus. We will most definitely be back and recommend this wonderful gem to everyone.

Thank you Rachel and all the staff at Mitchell's for giving us a night we will never forget!

  • Pros: Everything
  • Cons: Not one!

Awesome food & great service

by eah73 at Citysearch

My husband and I recently went to Mitchell's to celebrate our first anniversary...we ended up being very happy that we did. We both ordered steak (he got a N.Y. strip, I got the filet) and we thought it was outstanding! My husband even said it was the best steak he has ever had, and he has had a lot of them. He's a self-proclaimed connoisseur of steak, and in this case I'd definitely have to agree that Mitchell's has the best. After filling up on the great bread that they serve and the steak, we were too full to try any of the desserts. I'm sure, though, that the desserts are unbelievable.

Of course, I can't forget to mention the service. The best way to put it would be to say that the service was as good as the steak. The service was fantastic! Even though we drove up in a 1998 Mazda, the valet treated us the same as he would a person driving the latest-model BMW. Our server treated us like VIPs, despite the fact that we were both outfitted in our best from Old Navy. They treat everyone equally, which I've found to be a rarity at high-end restaurants.

The only negative was the price. Even though it was really expensive, it was worth every penny. It was the perfect place for us to celebrate our first year of marriage...and our second, our third, fourth...I'm sure you get what I'm saying. We might have to start saving our money now, though...

  • Pros: The food, service, ambience...great for special occasions
  • Cons: The price, though it's worth it

A "Prime" example...

by mark_cin at Citysearch

Well, after the Wall Street journal caught Mitchell's using the term "Prime" in only the dictionary sense of the word...... yes that was the lame excuse they used, I should have known better. The mushroom appetizer and the Crab Cake entree were wonderful. The first attempt at my medium rare porterhouse was mediumwell. The second try was so full of gristle that it made a great chewtoy for my dog. I won't make this mistake again. Hyde Park here I come.

  • Pros: Ambience and usually service
  • Cons: Shoe leather meat

Beautiful atmosphere and good service

by ainslie at Citysearch

This is a once in a while, special event restaurant. Service was very good. The food is over rated. I have eaten in some great steak houses and Mitchell's is average. Price value is poor.

  • Pros: Really cool interior
  • Cons: Poor price value

Absolutely wonderful.

by tsunamigrande at Citysearch

My wife and I loved everything about this restaurant. The steaks were cooked EXACTLY like we ordered them. Their porterhouse is extremely tasty and tender. I ordered the Filet Oscar and it was wonderful. Their lobster bisque is some of the best I've ever had. We also loved their shrimp cocktail.

This is the best steakhouse we've ever been to, and we've been to a lot.

The only knock is that it is a bit pricey, but in this case, you get what you pay for.

  • Pros: Steak cooked as we ordered.
  • Cons: A bit pricey, parking is a bit rough.

Highly Over Rated

by itsmeneene at Citysearch

If you enjoy spending money foolishly to make yourself feel rich and important, this is the place to do it! We were terribly disappointed in our meal. I have had much better filets, their mashed potatoes were nothing special and the appetizers were tasteless. If you think this place is the best, you need to travel more!

  • Pros: clean, valet parking, attentive waitstaff
  • Cons: overpriced, average food

Not worth the money

by lilcat19 at Citysearch

Went there with the family. Not one of us was pleased. My filet mignon was burned, as was my brother's steak, and he ordered his medium. Our bill was way over $200, and not one of us liked our meal. Definitely not worth the money.

Perhaps the city's most beautiful dining venue, brought to us by Columbus' most ambitious restaurateur, Cameron Mitchell.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
The curvy cocktail bar is all wood, glass and subtle lighting, and velvet drapings swoosh down from an ornate ceiling about 20 feet high. Original oil paintings with big art deco images provide some levity to contrast with the visual drama. The menu has a special note about the "pace" of service that says "an easy manner is our forte." Translation: There's lots of downtime between courses. This is nice if you're in the mood to linger, but they will speed it up upon request.

The Food
Lavish and classic. Fill up on bread before the meal-- it's hot and crusty with a moist inside. Salads are tossed with made-from-scratch dressings full of garlic and herbs. Steak is done eight different ways, including a classic surf and turf plate. Grilled lamb and fish, roasted veal and chicken and crab cakes complete the menu. Don't miss the jumbo lump crabmeat cocktail.

  • Pros: beautiful restaurant
  • Cons: pricey

Cameron's first and best

by decilliana at Citysearch

I went to Mitchell's for an anniversary dinner, and I loved it. The steaks were fabulous, and the sauce was the best I have ever tasted. Yes, the restaraunt is over-priced (~$90 for a full meal for two), but all of Cameron's restaurants are. Mitchell's is great if you're looking for a ritzy meal. Get reservations for the weekend, even if it means working ahead; dining is more fun when Mitchell's is full. With this, plan to take advantage of the valet parking, especially in winter. It's worth the price. The waitstaff is friendly and knows the menu, but they probably won't tell you that sides are big. Decide on 2-3 and share; it will be plenty. The tomatoes with mozzarella are fantastic. Plan to spend money, dress up, and make a big deal out of going downtown to Mitchell's (it has a better atmpsphere than Polaris). Then enjoy it!

  • Pros: best steaks in town, big side portions, friendly staff
  • Cons: weekend traffic, a little overpriced
