Been there 6 times...always a pleasure. Great food, great ambience (live piano), great service. All seafood and steak dinners are wonderful, and the chef(s) know how to cook your steak too. Nothing bad to say...just a great place. This Columbus icon is one of my most favorite resturants on the planet.

Pros: menu selection, the great food, unique menu items

Cons: parking

The Clarmont has the best Banana Cream and Coconut Cream pie in the city. Rich, creamy, and fluffy with real whipping cream on top. The only bad part is you can't order ahead and pick it up, you have to wait in the bar so you come out stinking of smoke.

Pros: Pie, Lobster Bisque, Ambience

Cons: , Crowded

The Clarmont has been my favorite restaurant since the 70's. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal there. Yes, it can sometimes be smokey and sometimes loud, but the quality of the food and the good service always make up for those short comings. While there are other places in town to get a good steak, there is nowhere else in town that you will get better shrimp cocktail than at the Clarmont. The shrimp is huge, crisp, fresh, cold and delicious.

Pros: value for the price, steak quality, excellent seafood

Cons: , small

Walking into the Clarmont after seeing the 50's looking sign, I was not surpised to see an interior that looks like it has not been updated since the late 70's. We were there during lunch and most people there were in suits. I guess this used to be the place to be for politicians to meet and make deals. Food was decent (overpriced) and so was the service.

Cons: Outdated

This is my all all time favorite restaurant of all time all cities i have lived in. The food remains consistant, the drinks are great, my fav is the surf and turf...although expensive it is well worth it for a special occassion. This place as been around since I was a child, and I still like it because it does not sway with the times. It like like a good Chanel suit. Always in Style!

Pros: smoking/non, excellent cocktails

Cons: parking usually full

I made reservations a week ahead and watched as people with no reservations or later reservations were seated before us. Clearly you had to be a regular in order to get seated. I watched as an elderly lady fell in the waiting area and the dude who seats you just stared at here while other guests helped her up. After 45 minutes of being overlooked, I left! I decided I didn't want the Clarmont to have any of my money. We went to the Elevator instead and had a great meal with great service. Shame on the Clarmont!

Cons: Rude Staff, Snobby, No respect

Editor's Review

This old steakhouse hasn't changed much since its opening in the '40s--which is a good thing.  See the full editorial review.
