Skip this place

by Badnana at Citysearch

This might have been a great restaurant once, but not anymore. The food was bland and uninspired. One of our party ordered the salmon and by the time they got half way through it, they were queasy. I got the Reuben and it was dull and boring and dry. Skip this place.

if you go, go on tuesday or the weekend!

by mcav19 at Citysearch

The chicken pot pie blue plate on Tuesday is delicious. As are the cinnamon rolls they serve as you sit down at brunch are soooooo yum! Never had a bad meal here, though I don't care for their "famous" meat loaf.

Don't let Diner in the name fool you.

by Jovifan at Citysearch

This was my second visit to a Cap City Diner after being in Columbus 9 yrs... I was reminded why I crossed it off my list. It is cute and fun and staff is super friendly. However I find the prices are very high. You really cannot successfully combine FINE and DINER. They would do better to cut portions and cut prices and keep the quaint atmosphere.

  • Pros: cute atmosphere, very friendly
  • Cons: high price for not that great quality

Seriously disappointing

by jitterbugperfume at Citysearch

After having this place recommended to us several times, my boyfriend and I decided to give Cap City a shot. We expected upscale diner food; we got low end Applebee's food. The atmosphere was a little confusing (mismatched chairs, diner entry, oddly lit dining room that couldn't decide whether it was formal and upscale or casual and cheap) as we walked to our table, but we reserved judgment until we'd opened our menus. My boyfriend was after a cheeseburger, so he quickly found what he wanted. I'm a vegetarian, and found nothing but a few children's meals and a terrible sounding "veggie plate", or "assortment of all the vegetables we have laying around for side dishes". To have a menu that is multiple pages in length and not even include one reasonable veggie choice is inconsiderate and irresponsible. Our server was really sweet and commiserated with me about the lack of vegetarian options. The food was all mediocre, uninspired, common, and bland, relying on grease and salt for all the flavoring. My boyfriend ordered his cheeseburger medium rare, expecting the meat to be decent enough to be served this way. It arrived VERY well done and he says it tasted like a frozen patty. The portions were also surprisingly stingy for diner food, so the food looked oddly lost on the giant plates. Unlike a high end restaurant, where you expect a small amount of wonderful food to be beautifully plated, Cap City presented a sad little pile of crappy food. I would never go back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless that person was a devotee of national chain type dining experiences.

  • Pros: Our server was helpful, sympathetic, and attentive
  • Cons: Everything else (food, atmosphere, everything!)

Bring Back the Old Menu!!!

by amylei333 at Citysearch

Cap City used to ROCK! But they have a new menu, and apparently new chefs, because it now falls short of awesome. They've created a new home cookin' kind of menu - a bit too reminiscent of Chili's or Applebee's menu. If you're vegetarian, be warned - there's almost NOTHING on the menu that's vegetarian friendly (unless you want a side salad). And nothing with any real pizzaz. I found the food to be pretty bland - no creative use of spices or sauces like before. Well, all the other Cameron Mitchell restaurants still rock!

My Favorite

by caseyjam27 at Citysearch

I love this place. For someone that can't afford to go to the really upscale restaurants around this is the best place out there. From the food that is Cameron Mitchell quality to the decor, Cap City is awesome. I even proposed to my fiancee here and they were so accomodating. We went here on our first date, our first date-anniversary and then our proposal date which she thought was just going to be our three-year anniversary. I've tried the meatloaf and several other dishes (usually the nightly specials) and everything has been top-notch. At the risk of creating longer lines, I would definately recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great night out with wonderful food at reasonable prices.

Fabulous

by javjav at Citysearch

We were just in town for the weekend and a local mentioned the place. It was wonderful. The waiter was extremely nice, offering us free desert just because we were out-of-towners. The steak was the best my boyfriend had ever had and mashed potatoes were excellent. It has something for everyone and we both loved it.

  • Pros: Good food, Great service, inexpensive

Should have gone long ago...

by brit1 at Citysearch

We went to CPFD&B during an OSU game, so it's not surprising that there was plenty of parking and that we were seated immediately. Apart from the $2.25 sodas, there really is nothing bad to say about the place. The restaurant has a 50s/60s feel about it, but the decor is upscale (no Coca Cola signs nor photos of James Dean, thank god). The service is oustanding from the moment you walk through the door, and our server was particularly charming and attentive. The menu is extensive, offering something for everyone. The meatloaf is superb, and the mashed potato is the best I have ever eaten. We were disappointed with the Banana Cream Pie, and it was immediately taken off the bill. Apart from the sodas, the prices are extremely reasonable - way cheaper than I'd expected. I would recommend Cap City to anyone, and can't wait to go back!

  • Pros: Outstanding service, Reasonable prices, Ambiance/decor
  • Cons: $2.25 sodas??!!

Already went back

by bccstan at Citysearch

Until a few days ago, I had never eaten at Cap City. I have been there twice in a week. Food is ecellent. A little pricey at lunch time but very tasty! On pleasant days the outside dining area is great. The service was excellent and the wait staff polite.

  • Pros: Great food, Atmosphere, Service
  • Cons: Music a bit loud
