Best Sunday Breakfast

by spiders at Citysearch

We love to head up to Whole World for Sunday breakfast/brunch. Sometimes there is a bit of a wait for a table, but the food is so satisfying that it is worth it. I love the tofu scramble. We also enjoy their interesting home-made burgers. It's also a nice, simple place to grab an easy dinner after a stressful day.

  • Pros: good street parking, great food
  • Cons: Sundays very crowded

Poor customer service, lack of consistency.

My wife and I are regular vegetarian diners. We have patronized Whole World before and enjoyed it. A couple of Saturdays ago we decided to take our kids there for lunch after shopping at the Clintonville farmers' market. First of all, the server seemed dismayed that we brought our children into their establishment. I mean, God forbid that we bring our kids out to eat with us, we even bought them an entree so they weren't just eating things out of our bag. A couple with a child came in right before us, and they got their food within minutes of ordering. We ordered two broccoli burgers and a grilled cheese for the kids to split. The food took longer than 20 minutes to get to our table. The couple that came in ahead of us was leaving before we got our lunch. When it finally did arrive, with no appology or explanation as to why it took so long, it was awful. The burgers were very dry. We've gotten them before and they were very moist and tasty. The "grilled" cheese was obviously baked, and not for very long. The cheese was a little sweaty as opposed to melted, and the bread had no crunch to it. I am a professional chef at one of Columbus's top restaurants, and I know that the food should have not taken that long. It's simple food, and there were only two other parties in the restaurant. When we told the server how poor the food was, she seemed not to care, and a management looking type was just sitting on the phone unaware of our comlaint. I may try it again to support a local business, but it will have to be outstanding to get my return business again.

  • Pros: Nice daily specials, colorful artwork
  • Cons: Poor customer service, inconsistent food quality

Thin, pretty, slow-moving hippies in bandanas serve healthy, hearty, slightly exotic vegetarian fare.

The Scene
Whole World is an institution in Clintonville, one of the few places not scared off by that wily no-liquor license deal. A mural behind the counter tells the story of the seasons, and the food is cheap and plentiful.

The Service...and The Crew
Typically slow. The staff is comprised of artsy looking kids with piercings and tight thrift store t-shirts.

Hash Revisited
From 10am-2pm Sunday, Whole World is a brunchy place. If you have a nice aura, they'll make you anything they can. Remember hash? Not the drug, you naughty thing: the slimy stuff your dad told you Army food stories about. The good people at Whole World have heartily redeemed hash with an earthy, salty menage of corn, carrot, potato, salt, and garlic. And if you're a tofu person, you'll love and lust after the tofu scramble, a salty tangy mess of marinated tofu and whatever you'd like on top: Broccoli, mushroom, and provolone sure does the tasty trick.

Wide Vegetarian Selection

by hopemcg at Citysearch

Certainly not somewhere to go if you are in a hurry and not somewhere to go if you get upset when a restaurant doesn't have everything on the menu actually available, but what they DO have is great. Their pizza toppings are very broad -- come up with an exciting combo. I would also suggest the crispy cucumber sandwich and the side salad with the garlic dressing.
