Best Pizza in Columbus
by nballerina at Citysearch
I'm from NY and I'm sorry but Donatos is NOT pizza!!!! Flying Pizza uses real mozzarella, their crust tastes more like doughy bread than a sweet craker and the crust is crisp but not too hard. Also, you never have to ask them to cut the pizza like a pie - in a triangle not bite sized squares. Now that's pizza. Also, the service is always entertaining and the place is a bit of a dive but ask any native NY'er and they'll tell you those are the signs of a great pizza place.
- Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive
terrible!
by CraigGr at Citysearch
where to start;
caned sauce,
canned mushrooms,
processed cheese,
cardboard crust,
= crappy pizza!
add small and dirty shop w/ no parking, and 5 bucks for 2 slices!
and it is nothing like true ny pizza, not even close!
only reason this shop survives is because students will eat anything that is fast.
yuck, ill never go back.
- Pros: none
- Cons: food, service, location, price
Good NY style pizza.

If you are on the go and need something after a night of partying or between classes this is a good place to stop by. They are quick. cheap, and it tastes like good NY style pizza.
- Pros: Quick, Good Food
Great Pizza, Poor Experiences

I'm from upstate New York. I love the pizza I can find there. So I was ecstatic to finally find a place in Ohio that served the pizza I'd grown up to love. The problem came in getting it.
Don't get me wrong, it's great. But getting that pizza is such a hassle that it's barely worth it. Don't even bother to use their website. Not only do they post hours that don't reflect when they are actually open, but the prices aren't even close to what you end up paying when you go to pick up your food.
Not too long ago I looked up their website and ordered a couple of pizzas. Now, the site says that prices may change, which is fine. But when I went to pick up our pizzas, and was told that the total was about $10 more than I'd expected, I couldn't believe it. The excuse I got was that the price of cheese had gone up so much, that the price of their pizza had to go up as well. Well, sure. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that no other pizza place I've been to has raised their prices so dramatically. And I'm sure they aren't the only place that uses "real" cheese.
As for their hours....It's Friday night and I really want pizza. So I go to Flying Pizza's website to check their hours. The website says that they are open until 9:00pm Mon-Thur, and until 11:00pm Fri and Sat. Well, I called at 8:43 to place an order and when they answer some guy says "we stop taking orders at 8:30, bye". Are you kidding me!?!? I've never heard of a restaurant closing this early on a Friday night.
So what did I just do? I ordered from Pizza Hut. It's not as good, but it's worth losing some flavor instead of having to deal with the headaches at Flying Pizza.
Oh, by the way...good luck trying to express your concerns to this company. I guess they're not interested in what customers have to say.
- Pros: Great Pizza
- Cons: Poor Service
The Only Real Pizza in Columbus
by miss_n_nj at Citysearch
I am from NY/NJ area. I have been searching for real pizza ever since I got here and God has finally answered my prayer. Since when did a dry, bland cracker with sauce and fake cheese get the priviledge to be called pizza. Look up pizza in the dictionary, you will find "The Flying Pizza!" Someone lied to Donato's and all these other so called pizza wanna-be joints. The first time I tasted Donatos, I was like wth is this. I was ready to cry because I wasted good money on crappy food. Ever since I found the Flying Pizza, which was over a week ago, I have been there at least 6-7 times. I recommend them to every one I know!!! They truly have the best NY style pizza around. How can it not be, the owner is an Italian from NY.....and he sells it by the slice.....now that right there is proof that its real pizza! Take a pie home and re-heat it on the metalrack of your oven or toaster oven and it taste fresh all over again! Its wonderful. The sicilian slices are just as good as the neopolitan. Im in love with "The Flying Pizza" and if I had the money, I would eat Sal's pizzas all day everyday. Thats how good his food is! You wont be disappointed unless you believe that pizza should be thin and dry and cut into little squares. The Flying Pizza is a piece of NYC in heart of Ohio. Im so glad youre here in Columbus and now that I found you....I will never go anywhere else for pizza. I am hooked! mmmmmmm.......Im ready for another slice right now! =)
- Pros: pizza by the slice lunch special, friendly staff, FANTABULOUS PIZZA!!!
- Cons: parking, needs to expand seating area
Best Pizza In Columbus/ Nation
by patt77m at Citysearch
This pizza is amazing! It's a New York slice crisp on the bottom and fresh on top, made with quality ingreidients at the location. The sauce is mild with a full flavor not to spicy, and the cheese blend is perfect fresh or heated again. Not only do I think it's the best place in columbus for pizza but so do all my friends! The pizza has even been in several national taste competitions. Highly recomended for the pickiest pizza eaters!
- Pros: Super Fast even if line is out the door
- Cons: I can never eat more than 2 slices

I'm from NY. This isn't exactly NY pizza. It's the closest I've found, but there is too much cheese, too much sauce and the dough is still too soggy. It's a good pie, don't get me wrong. But it's not NY....
- Pros: Excellent service!, Inexpensive
- Cons: Just not quite NY...
Best on Campus
by jnmkopin at Citysearch
My experience with Flying Pizza started in Centerville, OH in high school. A family owned restaurant with the BEST PIZZA in Ohio. Basically my friends and I were loyal patrons for four years in high school and didn't miss a beat when many of us migrated North to OSU. The only place on campus to drop in order a couple of slices, chow down and get on with the day. Don't expect to hang out for a long time, don't expect to find appealing decor, don't expect a fancy menu with trendy dishes...DO EXPECT the best pizza on campus. Go there for a great slice of 'za or an awesome pie...you won't be disappointed. John OSU'98
- Pros: PIZZA
- Cons: Space
Not so great
by chris1961 at Citysearch
You get cheese, or pepperoni. If you want mushrooms, they ladle this pizza sauce/musroom mix on top, then it is tossed in the oven to "warm" up. The pizza tastes allright, but there arec MUCH better out there. Im also not into "re-heated pie" thing. I guess if your on the go, and just want to grab something to chew on, this place would be ok. But if you want GOOD pie, and like more options and toppings, pick another place.
- Cons: limited toppings, no parking, small dinning area
Nice food

GREATEST PIZZA AND SERVICE EVER!!!
by mcooperid at Citysearch
Sal fed me through four years of college and I go back as often as I can to get his wonderful pizza. It is small, but the counter is full of big smiles and you get your silverware, napkin drink and wait for your pizza - it is sooooo good! And you can put whatever you want on your pie. They are amazing here, and I want them to open in Cleveland soon!
