Great for fans of Indie music by Jie G. at InsiderPages

Last time Death Cab for Cutie released an exclusive EP that are only avaliable in certains stores in US and online. Lucky for the Magnolia Thunderpussy Records, I was able to buy one. Also, this is an ideal place to shop if you're interesting in discovering new artists or find certain albums by artist you wont ble able to find in traditional record stores like Sam Goodies or such.
A throwback--both good and bad
by tbrave at Citysearch
I recently moved to Columbus and desperately wanted to support a local independent music store, and at first this looked like the place. There's a good selection, lots of t-shirts, and for the headbangers, a special metal section in the back. It's just too bad that almost everyone working is full of attitude. I've been in ther about 10 times (purshasing something almost everytime), and the staff has made eye contact with me once. The last straw was when I asked for help finding an import from the UK and was told to just order it on Amazon. It's difficult to suppor that type store. it was nice knowing you, looks like you had a great ride...maybe everyone's just in a bad mood because they know the end is near for their industry. Then again, up the street is Used Kids--go there and your faith in music-o-philes will be restored.
- Pros: Large selection of hard-to find discs, especially metal
- Cons: Old-fashioned alt-record store bad attitude
A veteran south campus record store, with a well-tended selection of all kinds of music.

The Sounds
The selection is mostly on disc, and features a comprehensive jazz layout, along with well-researched rock and indie racks. Magnolia does stock some vinyl, focusing on 45s as well as 7" and 12" singles from varied underground circuits.
On the Wall ...
Can't find that Sun Ra box set at Virgin? It's probably here, along with boxes of imported Miles Davis you didn't know existed.
Reading Room
This place stocks most decent music magazines, plus a few hard-to-follow cultish zines.
Rocks Off
This is the place to go if you want a must-have classic that doesn't end up in used bins often. Search through the entire catalog for artists like the Rolling Stones and the Who.
