Very unhappy
by Mixon27
I went to the zoo with my friends family and my friends sister has a prosthesis leg. She is unable to swim so we didn't buy a ticket for her. Didn't think we needed to, but when we got to the gate the young man woulndn't let her in, but he did tell us if she was in a wheelchair her and the person pushing her would be let in for 'FREE" how is that that fair??? Very confussed and very, very unhappy and I don't know if I will return in the future because how my friends sister was treated.
-DISAPPOINTED
- Pros: Water park is nice
- Cons: Animals looked over heated. Worker's need to know what's going on.
A great family place

I grew up in Columbus in the 70's and 80's and saw Jack Hanna take the zoo from small and old to the great place it is today. We go back at least once a year to visit the zoo and my kids love it!!! It is hard to see it all in a day and be ready to walk a lot. The animals are in wonderful habitats and every year the exhibits get better. It is also a reasonable day for a family. You can pack a picnic and save on food. There are great places to sit and enjoy a picnic and relax. It is a great place to go anytime of the year and even on crowded days there is plenty of room to move around. The volunteers that are at the exhibits are a great resource and always have fun bits of information and are more than willing to answer questions. There are a lot of field trips in April and May, so it can get crowded with large groups.
It was ok!!

It's a nice zoo with a lot of animals, but it is very large and you have to do quite a bit of walking. We could barely see the whole park in one day. Also, the exhibits aren't very naturalistic.
- Pros: variety of animals
- Cons: a lot of walking, very crowded
The city's best-known tourist attraction is an animal sanctuary, scientific research center and family-fun spot.

Overview
The 400 acres of animal exhibits stress natural habitats. The Columbus Zoo features 700 species of plant life indigenous to the animal's original environment. During the '80s and '90s, the zoo was the wacky domain of its director, Jack Hanna. Famous for bringing large hissing cockroaches and monkeys to visit network talk-show hosts from Katie Couric to David Letterman, Hanna used his personality and antics to help build the third largest municipally-owned zoo in North America.
The Experience
The world's largest indoor pachyderm exhibit is hugely popular. A leader in captive breeding, the zoo saw the first gorilla born in captivity in 1956. Renowned for its conservation program as well, the zoo features an aquarium including the "Manatee Coast" exhibit where visitors can stroll along a muddy beach through a recreated manatee habitat and glimpse the rare and endangered creatures.

The Columbus Zoo is a well-planned park with a wide variety of animals on display. Equally impressive is the attention to landscaping and architectural detail.
There are plenty of spots to park the stroller for quiet naps or picnics in the shade. And plenty of hands-on activities to keep the busiest toddler in business. But, if you really want to see the Rhino, do it before hitting the "Stings Wings 'n Playthings" playground (most kids don't want to leave it).
Don't miss Discovery Reef Aquarium. Kids can't get enough of the fish, sharks and rays. It is a terrific place for nursing mothers too (who can sit in the dark back row undisturbed).
Rides and attractions are reasonable. $1 gets you a ride on the "train" or a spin on the beautifully restored carousel.
Wear really comfortable shoes.
- Pros: Discovery Reef, Congo, Asia
- Cons: Trek from Parking Lot

My husband and I go to the zoo at least twice a year. We go in the summer for our company picnic and again in the winter for Zoo Lights. It is always a fun time and the price is right. The Columbus Zoo is my favorite among all the zoos I have visited.
- Pros: Cheap Admission, Variety of Activities

One of the best zoo's in the nation. A great place for the family that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get into and everyone can enjoy.
