Nice experience, but not a place to frequent.

by jva824 at Citysearch

No problems with the food. It's always been good...sushi is surprisingly good. The chefs are great, always funny. Servers are decent...pretty on top of drink refills, etc.

The problems, in no particular order:

1.) Cost. You pay for the experience of having your food prepared in front of you. It's not terribly expensive, but not a place you'd visit frequently. And, quite frankly, the added cost is not worth it after you've been there a few times.

2.) Host/Hostess staff. Rude. Not willing to accomodate. Their goal is to fill tables and serve the restaurants best interest, not yours. Make sure you have your whole party present at the same time..otherwise expect long delays in seating.

3.) Don't do the silly birthday thing. All they do is come out, play a drum, and give a pineapple...and stick you with a $5 charge on your bill.

Great atmosphere and fun!

by sususboy1968 at Citysearch

This place is great! Love the atmosphere and the food is great as well. I agree with the overpriced comment as well as the rudeness of host/hostess. It is apparent that they do not speak very much english. Overall, I can deal with the host/hostess because of the food and the cooks. Very fun!

  • Pros: great cooks
  • Cons: host/hostess not very polite

Great food - poor employee relations

by mrmonnin at Citysearch

The food and presentation are off the chart. The only thing I do not care for is that the host and hostess are very rude. When we asked our chef if he receives all of the tip and then tips out the bussers. He told us that the house distributes the tips. I do not care for establishments that do this. These guys work very hard and my wife and I do tip 20% when we are taken care of. I think it is reprehensable when a restaurant distributes the tips. How do I not know that the "house" charge the chefs and bussers a fee out of the tips? The system is communistic. That issue brings the entire experience below average.

  • Pros: excellent preparation
  • Cons: draconian tipping policies

By far the best Japanese experience in Columbus.

by coop0129 at Citysearch

This is one of the most fun restaraunts to go to in Columbus. I would highly recommend it. Sit at the table and watch as your chef prepares the food right in front of you. I have eaten at a few of the Japanese steakhouses in Columbus, and this is by far the best.

  • Pros: Table setting, food
  • Cons: Need to make reservations, or you have to wait.

EAT HERE!

by prada0801 at Citysearch

This place is AMAZING! I live in Cincinnati, ohio. I drive 2 hours to go to the House of Japan. The food is great and so is the service. This place is better than Benihuana in Cincinnati. Plus it isnt that expensive. I love this place, and actually we reanted it out for my rehersal dinner for my wedding. That cost an arm and a leg tho.

Melts in your mouth!

by vanhoose01 at Citysearch

My husband and I LOVE to eat here. While it is normally very crowded we have learned you must have reservations on the weekend. It is so worth any kind of wait! The filet melts in your mouth and their shrimp appetizer is so amazing! The Chef is always very entertaining and excellent at what he does! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The worst!

by uchaudhary at Citysearch

Took my husband for the first time...It was my second trip. The first during lunch was ok, but had been a couple of years. The chef made our dinner so salty that we left it, and told our server. She didn't care to ask if we wanted anything else, since we obviously had not eaten any of it. Didn't try to offer a coupon for our next trip, or to try to save us as customers to make sure if we would come back. I will NEVER come here again.

Do not celebrate your birthday here!

by lamoni3000 at Citysearch

We ventured to the resturant in celebration of my boyfriend's 26th birthday celebration. We went during dinner hours and they were so busy that our guests could not attend. The waiter would not let us sit at a table until all guests are there. The chef stole the show because he cracked jokes and made the atmosphere enjoyable. The food was delicious-I do not remember what I ordered. However, we ordered the birthday pineapple and they sang then added it onto the bill (5 bucks for pineapple!)

  • Pros: Good Food, Entertaining
  • Cons: Long wait for eating

a good place for a group to dine!!!

by mtemail at Citysearch

I have taken various groups of people to this expereince . . .people I know well and those new to me. . . and each time the entertainment of the chiefs and the ambiance of the facility make for a great dining experience . . .children think this is a terrific place-and love when the chief tosses an egg and catch it in their shift pocket . . . .each time we had had a chief who is good at 'working the group' and the food good -- -but the experince is just fun and unique.
