We LOVE this place, formerly known as Restaurant Japan. The sushi is always fresh, the rolls delicious and service friendly. I'm so sad that we moved away because I crave their sushi all the time. We've eaten sushi in many different cities, and this restaurant is one of the absolute best.

My husband and I discovered this place online, when we moved to Columbus. The first time we tried it we LOVED it. I was kind of skeptical, being from Florida, we are a little spoiled with how fresh the fish can be. I must say, this place has just as good, if not better sushi than we ever had in Florida!! I definitely recommend Akai Hana to anyone looking for good sushi. Oh and the PLUM WINE....be forewarned, it's not the same alcohol content as other wines. LOL (It's stronger). :)

My husband and I first found this restaurant through some vegetarian friends. Because the availability of good vegetarian food is very limited in Columbus, we were excited at the prospect. These friends had lived in Japan for a few months and they liked the sushi here better than anything they tried out there. We were pleasantly surprised by the variety that we, as vegetarians, could order: rather than a standard menu, we were given a book! We took non-vegetarian friends not long after, and it became a favorite of them as well. Excellent food, reasonable prices, and good service---what more can you want?
Pros: Delicious food, friendly staff, lots of variety
Cons: Parking could be better, location could be better

Akai Hana, formerly Restaurant Japan, makes sushi an art. Although perhaps not as trendy as other sushi restaurants in the area, Akai Hana has no reason to be pretentious. While other sushi restaurants are busy trying to make the consumer have an "authentic" japanese experience through the influence of interior decor, Akai Hana allows you an experience all your own, through its delectable selection of sushi, as well as other traditional entrees. The sushi is always very fresh, and the proportions of ingredients in the rolls couldn't be more perfect, for an overall delicious taste. Aside from more traditional sushi (which is all excellent), be sure to try the spicy scallop roll and dynamite roll (though, I would recommend having a full glass of water on hand to put out the fire you may experience in your mouth. Not in a bad way, of course!) When we try other japanese restaurants, we always end up comparing them to Akai Hana, and we always end up back at the same place. The wait may be long, but good things come to those who wait. Reservations are recommended.
Pros: See comments.
Cons: Always busy, but worth the wait.

Akai Hana is impressive from the first moment that you walk into their restaurant. It is such a nice restaurant with great decor and most importantly...very clean! The sushi is amazing! We have been going for three years (they were formally Restaurant Japan) and the food is always fresh. Try the shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, and spicy salmon...my favorites! Anytime that we have friends and relatives visit from out of town...we take them here and they all love it. Great food and great service staff!
Pros: Great food
Cons: Sometimes the wait for the food is a little long since they are so busy
