Pleasantly Surprised

My husband and I visited this restaurant on a Weds night.
My red wine was well-described in the wine list. I love their organization of wines, which abollishes the guess-work.
As vegetarians (almost vegans), we were a little worried, but the menu caters to all tastes. I like my arugula thick, strong and flavorful and found theirs to be up to the task. The yellow beet carpaccio was delicately handled and beautifully arranged. The black bean bruschetta held ground and was not soggy, as one might expect. Rather it was a staisfying chomp of beans, super fresh guacamole, and perfectly ripe tomatoes. We also shared an earthy and satisfying wild mushroom saute. All dishes came with the option of having the cheese on the side which was A+ for me!
We were very satisfied with the food and the wine. For $50 we had 3 tapas, 1 plate, a glass of wine, and a cocktail. The service was good, nothing lacking there, except that our server accidentally submitted our order "on hold" and so other tables that arrived after us got their food before us. At least the server owned up to the mistake as soon as she realized it.
The combination variety of booths, tables, and high tops is nice. The lighting and mood is very relaxing. Too bad the art/photography wasn't more intriguing!
In conclusion, we felt very pleasantly surprised by the experience and enjoyed ourselves!
- Pros: Variety of tastes, great wines
- Cons: parking, of course!
Overrated, Good only for uncultured farmer Ohioans!
by mannysteiner
Overrated! Burgundy Room tries to play up their upscale nature but in the end it's old, poor quality food, small portions, poor value. Not at all worht it! If you are from Ohio and have never experienced a big city, you might be fooled.
- Pros: Decent wines, good staff
- Cons: Food, fellow diners
Holy conflicting reviews!

We have one reviewer claiming the BR is full of tattoed hipsters and the other claiming it's too yuppie? I think what this indicates is that the Burgundy Room entertains a diverse clientelle, which it most certainly does. But I really don't see this as a bad thing. I tend to avoid it, and the whole neighborhood for that matter, on busy Friday and Saturday nights.
But the rest of the time it's a great place to chill, eat and drink. The wine list is the best in town and the food is great. Everything is made from scratch and it's a good value.
- Pros: Food, wine list
- Cons: Fridays and Saturdays are crowded
Overrated and strictly for 20 somethings.

OK - I guess I'm just not the target audience for this place. I'm over 40 and not looking for a one night stand with a tattooed lady, so this clearly is not my crowd. I love wine - but really this place is waaaaay overrated! I guess they're trying to be New York edgy- but chic. I've been to those bars and this ain't it. The place is dark and really disorganized with opened bottles cluttered on the side. The rowdy crowd slurps up as much beer and booze as wine - maybe because the list takes a PHD in wineology to decipher. The food is just so-so. Tapas is great when the tapas are great. Not here. There are better wine bars in Columbus now. My advice - FIND ONE!
- Cons: Dark, noisy, rowdy young crowd
Perfect Place for the Yuppie Crowd
by xerxes31082
The decor and ambiance of this place is great. They have an extensive wine list that isn't overly marked up and there's a focus on mid-range wines from around the world. The staff is appropriately versed in winespeak and actually seem to know something about most of what's on the menu. The plates are well-prepared but not as wildy gormet as they'd have you believe. The crowd tend to be over-paid late-20somethings to 30somethings who raise a riotous cacaphony as opposed to having civil discourse... of course, it's that part of town too. Great place to go, better when you try and hit it when it's not so crowded.
- Pros: Wine List, Helpful Staff, Decor
- Cons: Crowded, Noise, Pretensious Clientele
A stimulating experience for lovers of wine and fine dining.

The Scene
Housed in the former home of the Short North's top people-watching spot, K2U, the Burgundy Room easily capitalizes on its location's legacy. The decor has been updated with warmer, darker colors, circular booths and dim lighting. The look is lush and moody, though the pulsating dance beats are distracting.
The Food
The focus of the dining experience is pairing wines with tapas dishes; for a full meal, plan on ordering at least two or three menu items per person. Servers are extremely cheerful about helping diners navigate the experience. Some dishes are better for sharing than others, like the exceptional beef carpaccio with sage aioli or the Prince Edward Island mussels in white wine-garlic broth. The tuna tartare with soy-ginger dressing on wonton crisps is a light treat. For something a little more filling, try the homestyle meat loaf with sweet tomato fondue and shoestring potatoes.
