Food is decent but is the lousy service worth it?

by wkimmerly at Citysearch

I am a frequent visitor to Columbus and have eaten here a number of times. The atmosphere is OK, the decor is in Betty Paige theme. There is always a decent selection of draft beers, and the menu is pretty good. I have had their mac & cheese a number of times and it is quite good. However every time I go there I am left feeling at best nonplusssed by the service. In particular there is a fully bearded guy who usually works the bar who contantly makes me feel like I am the biggest inconvenience in the world.

Tonight I asked for a table (there were four empty ones) and was told I had to sit at the bar, which was packed. I insisted on a table, which I finally got after some glares. And as usual I get my appetizer soup and my main course at the same time so by the time I am done the soup my dinner is cold. I've given this place enough chances, I am done!

This bar has a problem with military IDs

by Julie315 at Citysearch

My husband and I wanted to enjoy a drink here, but we never got the chance. When asked for ID, I presented my active duty military identification, which I have used for 5 years at restaurants, bars, and supermarkets without a single problem. I didn't have my driver's license with me because I was not driving that evening. The bartender said that the liquor agency told him to only take state IDs, and we were turned away.

Maybe the bartender was just trying to do his job and follow the rules, but I don't believe for one second that any government agency would prohibit the use of official military identification as proof of age. Military IDs have a photo and social security number and would be much harder to forge and are more tightly controlled than state driver's licenses. Give me a break. I felt disrespected for serving my country, and I won't be going back to this place.

Great atmosphere and food

by nightwingx00 at Citysearch

Have been going there for for a couple years now. You will have to wait a little bit if its busy for a seat, but go to the bar and order a great drink. Had my first appletini there and it was AWESOME!! Food portions are big. I usually end up taking half mine home and have it for lunch the next day. Very diverse and can be yourself in the short north. Staff is very good and friendly. If you havnt ate here, definatly try it, you will like it.

Great Eating in Short North

by treasuresqueen at Citysearch

First of all, if the restaurant is geared and decorated with Bettie Page, they've spelled it wrong. I love the 50's decor. Very small seating, about 10 tables, but you can eat at the bar. I had the nachos with black chips - very good. My date had the Beer Brats with mashed potatoes and grilled peppers and onions - I'm getting that when I go back! Drinks were excellent and the customer service wasn't bad (they forgot our silverware), but overall, I'd love to go back!

best late night food

by ecf9 at Citysearch

I've been to Betty's many times for lunch with my sister-- tried a new dish each time and have never been disappointed. Wait staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about the menu-- my favorite dish, the Southwest Chicken Salad, came as a recommendation by my waitress when I couldn't decide on my meal. I love that Betty's kitchen is open late-- nothing like the Spinach dip after midnight! Great beer and funky drink selection as well.

  • Pros: food, service, drink selection
  • Cons: can get crowded

LUV betty's!

by queenbea18 at Citysearch

My husband and I are like Jack Sprat and his wife-- I'm a strict vegetarian and he loves him some meat. Betty's is perfect for us! It's also a perfect place to go for a girls night out with late night food and Betty Ford Clinics (the name is funny but tasteless and the drink is excellent).

Appetizers here are excellent and portions are huge. I'm still exploring the menu and after numerous dinners still haven't exhausted all my options-- which is a huge feat for a vegetarian who doesn't eat cheese :O)

  • Pros: great quality , everything's yummy, vegetarian options!
  • Cons: limited seating

Spicy Soba and a Cold Beer

by spiders at Citysearch

What a fun place to meet up with friends for ArtsWalk night, or unwind after work. The beer list is carefully put together, and the menu is modest, wholesome, and fun. The spicy soba noodles were yummy and the vegetarian fare was very, well, vegetarian (thank goodness.) Portions are normal.

  • Pros: veg-friendly, tasty beer, fun atmosphere
  • Cons: loud, crowded, long wait times

"exotic" beers in columbus

by jalepeno at Citysearch

We recently relocated from a larger city to Columbus. At every opportunity, we ask people we encounter where to go--and Betty's is the place! In the land of "King of Beers" it is great to have alternative choices on tap at Betty's! There are vegetarian options on the menu, and the servers are very friendly when requesting alterations or changes to a dish to ensure that it meets dietary needs. The ambiance is kitchy but not pretentious.
