Our visit to Cuco's was forgettable

Expected more after reading all the reviews. All in all, our visit to Cuco's was forgettable.

The food was barely average; a boring and mushy beef burrito; a shredded beef chimichanga with fatty and inedible chunks of beef that had to be set aside; salsa that may have been homemade but seemed based on canned tomato sauce; tasteless rice and soupy "refritos". However, margaritas and guacamole were good.

The service was barely average; although prompt, they seemed curt and uncaring. Weirdly, the waiter took my credit card and processed before I had even reviewed the check. I never saw that one before.

The location is in a deteriorating strip mall next to a sports bar. The interior is fairly rough, too.

Las Margaritas just down the road on Henderson or La Casita on Bethel are much better choices if you are in this area.

• Pros: Good margaritas. Good guacamole.
• Cons: Average food and service; dreary strip mall setting.

Agreed - hope this place stays a secret!

AMAZING food - it is a very small location. though but parking has never been a problem so far. My husband & I always sit at the bar - the service is amazing, Tapatia margaritas are a MUST, and the salsa is unreal (so are the chips - everything is homemade). Can't go wrong with anything you order.

• Pros: Great value - two will eat for $25 with 2 drinks!
• Cons: Very small - but still a secret so no problem getting a table

Hidden gem off Henderson Rd!

Always a fan of mexican cuisine, I had to try Cuco's after my friends and co-workers raved endlessly about it. It is BY FAR the best mexican eatery in the city. The margaritas were yummy, the salsa is fresh and spicy. I had the Monteray fajitas, which were excellent. I loved the refried beans, which actually tasted like beans and not lard. My hubby loved the fish tacos and we both had so much food there was no room for dessert. I almost hope this stays a secret; it's a total hole in the wall with limited seating so it could get packed really quickly.

• Pros: Great authentic food! Great prices, great menu variety
• Cons: limited seating, a little tricky to find.

Best Mexican Food in Columbus

As a native Texan who moved to Columbus last year, I was so relieved to find Cuco's Mexican restaurant. It is the only place I've tried so far in Columbus that tastes like the real thing! The wait staff is delightful and they serve a great Margarita Texana. The salsa is excellent and I recommend the chicken enchiladas. They also serve black beans, which are a great addition to a good Mexican dish. A fun place for the family or even work friends- Cucos is a wonderful find!

Best Mexican Food in Columbus

My wife and I are from Columbus, but we lived in Chicago for a while, and got hooked on real, truly authentic Mexican food. We were thrilled to find Cuco's so close to us, since we had a handful of places in Chicago just like it to choose from (within walking distance). I had Carnitas tacos and my wife had Chorizo. They tasted as excellent as the ones I had grown accustomed to while living in the Windy City. I will be a regular here for sure!

• Pros: Amazing Food, Great Value, Friendly Staff
• Cons: Will cause food addiction (now is that really a con?)

Like being in Mexico...

My fiance is from Mexico City and we eat here at least once a week because he said that it is the only place in town that actually tastes like the food is from Mexico. Our favorites are the sopes (appetizer) as a meal, the shrimp cocktail (coctel de camarones), or tacos with barbacoa. Definately save room for desseret because they are SO GOOD!!!

• Pros: Sopes, Chimichangas, Desserts
• Cons: Location, can be hard to find at times!

Strip mall gem

I once met a Mexican family dining at Cuco's, they were from Marion and said they came all that distance because Cuco's is "like home cooking." My buddy Brian who spent a couple years in Mexico after school also attests to the food's authenticity. Me? I just think it tastes great. I've never had anything I didn't like, but the fish taco (one of their specialties) is a must. Fried grouper comes on soft tortilla with cabbage, tomato and a creamy sauce (soooo good!); pair a few with a tapatio margarita and "usted esta en cielo." The staff is friendly and attentive. It's my favorite mexican place in town (and I think there are a number of good ones that I won't name here).

Outstanding Mexican Food

When I first walked in Cuco's the aroma made me feel as I was in Mexico. The fish taco and catfish soup keeps bringing me back. Friends and family fully agree this is by far the best Mexican resturant in town.
