Video review of Indian Kitchen
by Eatcolumbus at Citysearch
My video review of Indian Kitchen is found at: www.youtube.c0m/watch?v=Z7FAhj_COC8
I've had Indian Kitchen for a few years now, and haven't really been big fan of the restaurant. The main reason may be because I've always had a horrible stomach cramp after curries. Maybe my stomach just didn't match the spices that were placed in them, but I had the fried rice meal last time, and it was actually not bad. I'd probably recommend the place due to their location and the price of the meals themselves, and for those of us who prefer delivery, it should be a great relief that they deliver also.
- Pros: delivery, price
- Cons: atmosphere, ambience
Can't believe they are still open... Riding Indian Oven's coat-tails, I guess
by BandyShirt at Citysearch
Okay, so if you've been in the area few years, you may or may not know that Indian Kitchen is the original location of Indian Oven. Indian Oven has moved downtown and is now a fancy, hip place.
I am POSITIVE that the glowing reviews for Indian Kitchen must be from people mistaking it for Indian Oven because Indian Kitchen is the worst Indian food in Columbus, by a long shot. I'm astounded that they've managed to stay open, particularly after Taj Mahal moved right across the street from them.
Their chicken dishes are usually made with all dark meat, which is unacceptable for the price (call me a snob but I just don't want to be served only dark meat in a $14 dish!). Their rice is plain white, unspiced basmati rice. Where are the fennel seeds, cloves & saffron? Not at Indian Kitchen, that's for sure!
They tend to add a LOT of onions to their dishes, particularly Saag Paneer/Palak Paneer (same dish). Onions are cheap filler-food. For the prices they're charging, I don't want filler.
Conclusion: For the prices they're charging, you may as well go across the street to Taj Mahal. I guarantee you'll be happier there!
- Pros: They deliver & offer student discounts
- Cons: The food is the worst Indian food I've ever eaten. Served w/ plain white rice!
awesome student discounts, close to campus, never busy
by flychicken33 at Citysearch
Indian Kitchen is very scrumptious and time efficient. It is never busy and the owner is a sweet heart who is always very generous to OSU students and usually offers a discount regardless. I highly recommend it.
- Pros: proximity to campus
- Cons: dark ambiance
Worst Food, Worst customer service, Dirty
by za855021 at Citysearch
I went to the Indian Kitchen today and wanted to try the lunch buffet
but there was no one in the small dirty restaurant
and there were only 4 dishes for the buffets and looked like left over
the condition was not good and dirty
so i decided not to eat here
when i leave the restaurant, the owner of the restaurant
SLAM THE DOOR ON US ON THE WAY OUT
and SHOUT "DON'T EVER COME BACK IN AGAIN"
and STARED ME LIKE CRAZY
so ya.......i do not recommand anyone to go
the place should be put out of business already
if i were you i will not even think about walk in there, if you don't want the owner
to slam the door at your face
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: bad service, dirty, bad food
Excellent Veggies and bread, bad meat and service
by fusmashu at Citysearch
The experience would have been much better if the waiter, Andrew, wasn't so inconsiderate (stronger terms not allowed in review). I would have left but, (ironically) some of the food was great. The veggie dishes were the best I've had at an Indian restaurant, but that's the only redeeming quality. Run-down place, the meat from the tandoor is horribly dry and bland.
- Pros: great veggie dishes, and naan
- Cons: terrible service, difficult parking, bad meat
best indian i've ever had, tried many others
by katef23 at Citysearch
This place is SO good. dont judge it by the outside, appears a little dirty. gentleman that owns it is very sweet and accomodating. they have the best samosa i've ever had. i live 30 min from this place and still go there at least once a week.i've tried numerous indian places around columbus in hopes of finding a place closer thats good, but none can compare. I have eaten at indian restaurants in FL, CA, NY, NC, etc. and i promise none can compare. i love that i can wear comfy clothes and get a seat at the busiest times. i almost hate to let the secret out.
- Pros: samosa!, naan, no wait, not dressy, friendly waiters
- Cons: not that pretty to look at
Best Indian in Columbus, for a low key night
by kryspypuff at Citysearch
Ok, so it's not a "fancy" place. Other reviewers have commented that this place has poor food, service, and ambiance. But I suppose that depends what you're looking for. Say what you will, but eating in an old, creaky house that's been converted to a two-story dining area and served by a small staff provides a much more quaint and intimate experience than in a "classier" joint. You want ambiance? This is real atmosphere, family restaurant family setting, not some americanized bistro like what Indian Oven has become. Service CAN be slow in the evenings, but the buffet is always great and it's the only buffet in Columbus that prepares the naan fresh for every customer.
I used to eat here on a weekly basis while going to OSU. I have found few restaurants even in Chicago's large Indian community on Devon that can match the flavor of Indian Kitchen's dishes. Every time I come back to Columbus to visit, my fiance and I make sure to stop at Indian Kitchen to get our fix.
Easily the best Navratan Korma and Palak Paneer anywhere in the midwest.
- Pros: Best Indian fare in Columbus
- Cons: slow service on busy nights
Worst restaurant in Columbus, Ohio
by touchdownbuckeyes at Citysearch
Worst service possible. Very small place. The owner doesn't care for the customers, the food is over-priced and the place has no ambience whatsoever. Avoid it like plague.
Average place for fast food
by mguzman05 at Citysearch
THis is a small place, service depends on how many customers they have. Very laid back atmosphere. I would feel comfy here in my PJs. Service is good on a slow day but not so friendly.
- Pros: Cheap Buffet, Convenient Location
- Cons: street parking, medium quality food
