THE BEST

The best ice cream. Way better than Jeni's in my opinion. Try the coconut chip--to die for!

Avoid Cookie Dough Ice Cream

by Eskimo58 at Citysearch

If you are a cookie dough fan, dont go here. I bought a pint and there literally was only 2 pieces of cookie dough in the pint. Overpriced and definately not worth it. You can go another mile down the street to Kroger and get the kroger brand ice cream for half the price and enough cookie dough to go around. I wont be returning.

  • Pros: there were none
  • Cons: not enough cookie dough in the ice cream

Great Ice Cream

by britel at Citysearch

I was in Columbus looking for a new bicycle and while driving down High Street. I noticed this sign for "homemade" ice cream. I stopped to see how good it was. Stepping inside you feel small because the interior feel expansive for some reason. It might have relate to the tall fairly unadorned walls and simple floor layout. However, don't be fooled because this place is all about the ice cream. They were generous helping me choose from their extensive list by letting me try some of their fun flavors - chocolate merlot, ginger, and apple caramel. There are other crazy flavors as well (hot mint chocolate), but they have standards flavors.

The texture of the ice cream was rich, but well balanced. I could feel some small quantities of ice cystals in the ginger ice cream. Nevertheless, this is top notch stuff. The best way to taste all the flavors is to split the scoops into different flavors. There's no reason not to eat this ice cream even in the winter.

  • Pros: True premium homemade ice cream, great selection
  • Cons: picking a flavor

Best Icecream

by niaf at Citysearch

We've lived in Columbus for years and this place has the best icecream ever. The icecream has the best texture (creamy, but firm and rich), and has the most intense, natural flavors. We've tried most other icecream shops, but have always returned to Denise, since nothing holds up to Denise's Icecream. The staff consists of teenagers and college kids, so the quality of service is not predictable, but they're always friendly. Fortunately and most importantly, the icecream quality is consistent.

Best Ice Cream Anywhere in the US

by gwwelch at Citysearch

We lived a few blocks from one of the old Denise's locations in Arlington, Ma in 2002 and were huge favorites of Denise's ice cream. It is like no other ice cream there is with great imagination about the flavors. Stan the owner took my son and I out back of his shop to sample the NY Cheesecake when he first made it and he talked about all the art and science that went into it and that the shop name was inspired by his wife. When he moved and sold up and moved to the mid West we were bummed out! This guy is the world's best ice cream maker and we still talk about all the flavors in our family. Very pleased to see his ice cream shop has now re-emerged in Columbus, OH. Look forward to the day they ship it out of state.

Best in Ohio

by yallam at Citysearch

Graeter's and Jeni's are great, but this is definitely my favorite. All the flavors are natural and anything in the name of the flavor is actually in there. For example, the Bailey's Irish flavor is made from it's namesake. My favorites? Thin Mint, Salted Caramel, White Coffee, White Chocolate, Oreo, Chocolate Brownie. I have heard that the cheesecake flavor (I think it's a berry cheesecake of some sort) is also really good, but I have yet to try it. Don't waste your money on a chain like Coldstone, which I think is far too rich and heavy. Try Denise's! You won't be sorry. Additionally, I've always thought the staff was great, like the product. I don't know what the one negative review was talking about and I go there all the time (weekly).

  • Pros: unique flavors, best flavors
  • Cons: umm... somtimes the quanties are huge. try to get half-scoops.

IMPRESSIVE BEYOND COMPARE

by natsobad at Citysearch

Had dinner at Smith & Wollinsky in Easton and they serve Denise's ice cream and Sorbets. We were so impressed that the party of 15 of us went over to Clintonville the next night. All of us,whom had grown up in Coluimbus were in agreement that this place bests anaything we have had before. The ice cream is flavored naturally, My mint chip was great with pepermint leaves, and unlike other places did not taste like toothpaste. Employees were very helpful we sampled cheesecake, salty caramel, and Strawberry. All had great clean flavor, creaminess and no aftertaste. YUK must have either gone to another store or have no taste buds. GREAT JOB DENISE'S. WE LOVE YOUR STORE. One of your staff said the owner was working on made from scratch GELATO. We hope so, having traveled to Italy many times. Please make it. Anyhow great job

  • Pros: excellent quality, price cheap, employees helpful
  • Cons: not enough parking

Yuck

by grahamboy at Citysearch

That says it all. Yuck. The ice cream tasted artificially flavored. It leaves a waxy coating on your tongue -- very unpleasant. Add to that, the staff was dull, almost rude, very disinterested in what they were doing. I may as well have been invisible. Ice cream is supposed to be a treat, but my trip to this place was anything but.

  • Pros: parking
  • Cons: Tastes awful, rude staff
