One of the most unassuming but tasty places in Columbus..
The Scene
The location isn't the best?it's located in a strip mall on 161. The interior decor is pretty basic, but Indian tapestries depicting starry nights and horses with human eyes cheer the place up. You can watch international television while you wait for your food. But who needs glitz when the food is inherently glamorous?
The Food
The pappadam, served when you sit down, has a thin, cleansing, minty chutney. The samosa possesses an inherent aged smokiness and is very crisp, not oily. For lunch or dinner, get the special, or have the Chhole-Puri Pulav-curried garbanzo beans with puffy bread that pops when you poke it, and delicate rice with cashews, golden raisins and green peas.
For dessert, Gulab Jamun is a circle of wet cake made with pistachio, almond and cardamom, suspended in honey water.
Best Homade Indian Food. Annapurna is the best homeade vegetarian food in Columbus. The owners are quite friendly and willing to do anything to serve their customers needs. They serve a buffet, which you can carry-out, or you can have them cater your next party or dinner. If you are on a budget, then Annapurna is the place to go because their food is inexpensive. Nonetheless, the price of the food is not an indicator of the quality of the food because you are getting much more than what you are paying for.
Indigestion has a name.... The service was great, the staff very friendly. The food was just pretty poor - greasy and generic. Frozen vegetables were added to the saffron rice. The simosas were OK, but tasted of the oil from which they had just emerged. Grilled white bread hamburger buns were served with our curry ?!? I'm a big fan of Indian food, but would never come back here again. Only saving grace is that it wasn't very expensive. Cheap eats, yes - but you'll pay for it later with terrible indigestion.
not the best.
THis vegetarian restaurant does not serve the best fare. Some dishes are really good. Such as the spicy eggplant on a bun. THe desert Gulabjamun is really good.
Many of the other dishes (especially the idli's) are not good at all.
Somewhat sloppy service. I found an eyelash in my dish of rice.
Price is chepa though.
