The SceneThe Gahanna Grill is a local landmark and hangout full of regulars, especially in the bar area. The tabletops feature ads for area businesses. The walls are crammed with autographed sports jerseys. There is a small town feel here; the employees know most of their patrons on sight. Some people might write this off as a dive at quick glance, but substance wins over form every time. The FoodThe hamburgers are legendary. The signature Beanie Burger is named after the short order cook/creator who grilled the first one. It is a 1/3 lb. thick patty with fried onions, homemade slaw, a…
Worth a Trip from Philadelphia!

I read all 8 of the reviews for The Gahanna Grill on City Search’s sight. All of them were 4 or 5 stars, except the last one. There is an almost 3-year gap between the last 5 star review, and the one and only disenchanted customer’s 1 star review. Perhaps the quality of Gahanna Grill’s hamburgers has diminished over the past 3 years. I don’t know, but then I am a seafood person. I do know my guest, a discriminate individual, was always pleased with any of the variety of burgers she had.
My first visit to Gahanna Grill was in November (Thanksgiving Week) 2007. I had reconnected with a dear friend who now lives in Gahanna, and she recommended we have lunch there. Cathy had the Bacon Cheeseburger with Onion Rings, and I ordered the Fish Sandwich, and as Cathy did, I also substituted Onion Rings for the French Fries. My Fish Sandwich arrived as described on the menu, “A huge haddock fillet with tartar sauce on the side”.
My friend Cathy and I both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The haddock filet was as they said it would be, almost the size of the boat it was caught from; we’re talking a mini aircraft carrier. It was nicely battered, perfectly fried, and was hot, and extremely tasty; I had absolutely nothing to complain about! Cathy was quite pleased with her meal also.
I’ve revisited Gahanna Grill 6 times, since my initial visit (December 2007, March 2008, June 2008, September 2008, December 2008 and September 2009). Each time I ordered the Fish Sandwich, and Cathy ordered one of the many varieties of burgers, including Gahanna Grill’s famous “Beanie Burger”. Every Fish Sandwich I ordered was identical in size and quality of the first one I had. Cathy also enjoyed all of her meals.
In short, whether we dined inside, or out on the patio, the setting was warm, comfortable and cozy. Every meal was excellent! They were served quickly, and hot, by always pleasant, attentive, and willing to please wait staff!
I eat out often, and if a Gahanna Grill opened up its doors near my neighborhood, a Philadelphia suburb, I’m sure I’d be a regular customer. Lastly, their pricing is so low that I wonder how they can be making any profit!
- Pros: Pleasant and eager staff. Excellent food. Moderate pricing.
- Cons: 431 miles from my home!
is this a joke or something?

I was under the impression this place had good burgers.
I ordered the "mushroom swiss burger" The description boasted sauteed shrooms, swiss cheese and a 1/3 pound burger cooked to order. This is what I got:
1) A huge bulkie roll, ice cold right out of the bag
2) A slab of burger, no where near 1/3 of a pound, cooked beyond well done, dry and breaking apart, yet oddly it was only warm in temperature, which leads me to believe it was reheated.
3) The slab of meat was topped with cold canned mushrooms i.e. the "cook" placed mushrooms directly from the can on top of my burger.
4) The "Swiss" was actually two pieces of white American cheese which never came close to melting.
5) To accompany my onion rings, which in all fairness were really good, I squeezed out some ketchup from the red plastic bottle on the table. The ketchup was spoiled, i would estimate it to be between 80 and 100 proof. Upon looking around at the bottles on the other tables, I noticed they were all caked with old, dried ketchup.
To "top it all off" my burger was crowned wit the "piece de la resistance": A dark hair!!!
I can look past the hair because I work in a restaurant and it happens, BUT I cannot believe there is someone who would put out a piece of garbage like this. Whoever plated this poor excuse for pig slop does not have one ounce of passion for cooking. As I left, I noticed the place was boasting about being included in a book about the "Best Burgers in the Country!!!" My only question is, how much did it cost to get in that book? It must have cost enough that they had to make up for it by serving dung for food. If you think these are great burgers, you need to have your head examined, or at least try getting out of Ohio once and a while.
- Pros: I was able to walk out alive
- Cons: everything
#1 for burgers!

The burgers at Gahanna Grill put the Wendy's across the street to shame. So, you can then imagine what the rest of the home-cooked food choices on the menu do to it! It's great for during- and after-work stops for a couple of AWESOME burgers or a couple of beers or drinks. Next time you want a warm atmosphere, friendly service, and of course....great food, make Gahanna Grill the place to go!
- Pros: Aside what I said in the review, it's got 3 or 4 widescreen TVs to watch football games on too...
- Cons: N/A
