Editorial Review for Gahanna Grill – by James Ellison
The Scene
The Gahanna Grill is a local landmark and hangout full of regulars, especially in the bar area. The tabletops feature ads for area businesses. The walls are crammed with autographed sports jerseys. There is a small town feel here; the employees know most of their patrons on sight. Some people might write this off as a dive at quick glance, but substance wins over form every time.
The Food
The hamburgers are legendary. The signature Beanie Burger is named after the short order cook/creator who grilled the first one. It is a 1/3 lb. thick patty with fried onions, homemade slaw, a landslide of pickles, lettuce and tomato. Swiss cheese, bacon, and grilled onions combine for the Academy Burger. The Blue Cheese, Mushroom and Swiss, and Patty Melt are other possibilities. If you can resist these beefy burgers there are other choices including a chicken sandwich with multiple add-ons, a mouth watering prime rib, tender pork chops, several daily specials and homemade desserts such as the apple walnut pie.

The burgers at Gahanna Grill put the Wendy's across the street to shame. So, you can then imagine what the rest of the home-cooked food choices on the menu do to it! It's great for during- and after-work stops for a couple of AWESOME burgers or a couple of beers or drinks. Next time you want a warm atmosphere, friendly service, and of course....great food, make Gahanna Grill the place to go!
Pros: Aside what I said in the review, it's got 3 or 4 widescreen TVs to watch football games on too...
Cons: N/A

The hamburger was OK. the Fries were OK. It just doesn't compare to Johnnies on Trabue. Johnnies isnt as nice in decor but the quality of the burger is far superior to the Gahanna Grill. If you deal with the old time decor (a real 1950s phone booth) and a staff that will dress in a t-shirt, Johnnies on Trabue is my choice. I have been to Thurman Cafe, Gahanna Grill and Max & Ermas. Johnnies still is the best TASTING burger in Columbus.
Pros: Clean place, decent service, Ok taste
Cons: Not a great taste, generic atmosphere, not Johnnies
