Columbus >Mariachis Mexican Restaurant
Absolutely Terrible. Worst Mexican Food Ever..
If I could give this place negative stars, I would. I consider myself a lover of any and all Mexican food. It's like pizza to me- even when it's so-so, it's still good. This place has officially shown me that disgustingly awful Mexican food can (and does) exist. I tried this place out with a group of girl friends recently on a very quiet, far-from-bustling Wednesday night. The service was terrible. Our waitress was lethargic and spent her time flirting with someone on the kitchen staff. Plates were not cleared, chips were not re-filled (even after an order of "cheese dip" was brought to us to obviously go with said chips), our bills were never brought to us even after we requested them (we waited so long we eventually just waited at the register), and we all had our food brought out without any silverware.
The food (if you can call it that) was deplorable. I ordered a simple Chicken Burrito. It had an enormous tortilla folded over itself several times over to create a thick stack of overcooked rubbery tortilla encasing my burrito. Inside the "burrito" was nothing but chicken. And I do mean NOTHING. It was jam packed with dry, unseasoned chicken pieces without one shred of vegetable, cheese, onion- nothing. The burrito "red sauce" tasted like it belonged on some bad spaghetti. The tortilla chips were so brittle and hard, it legit hurt to chew them. The salsa was watery and had no taste at all except for a faint taste of seafood. The "cheese dip" was nothing like you would expect of a traditional Mexican restaurant- it was Velveeta-esque and quickly coagulated into a chunky mess. Everyone who dined with me had similar experiences with their food and we all felt absolutely ill for the remainder of the night. I would NEVER recommend that anyone (even my worst enemy) eat here.
Sadly, did not live up to the hype. Having seen all of the rave reviews here and on Digitalcity I decided to try this place. However, having just seen a review mentioning a change in owners and a sharp decline in the quality of food I probably missed out on what all the commotion was about. Having traveled through a large portion of Mexico, I was hoping to eat some real Mexican food (or something close). Unfortunately, both my brother and I were very dissapointed. I ordered the chicken in mole sauce and my brother got the Costa Azul shrimp. The mole sauce was somewhat burnt and devoid of spices while the chicken was tough. The shrimp was stringy and just covered in Monteray Jack cheese and not impressive, especially considering it was about $11. I don't see myself ever going back here, but if for some reason you want to, stick withthe more common Mexican dishes.
Horrible changes to a good restaurant.. This was one of our favorite restaurants.Unfortunately, it has been taken over by new owners and feels more like a bus station than a family restaurant. The food is even worse: the salsa is flavorless, the chips actually intersting in that they are the worst any of us have ever had. Entres were not edible. Just don't go here if you like food. Horrible changes to a once very good restaurant.
Margaritas and mole, Mexican food like your Madre never made..
An inexpensive place to feed your family and be served by one. Many of the employees are related. It's not uncommon to see one of their children on the sidelines or dashing past the Mexican themed posters and oversized fish hanging on the walls.
No bad meals here amigo. Watch out for the margaritas, which are made with a punch. Finely prepared steak and shredded beef hide in enchiladas and giant burritos heaped with shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes and large dollops of sour cream. A must, for even the meekest diner, is the divine and addictive Mole?a spicy, brown sauce with a hint of chocolate. The menu is stocked with shrimp dishes for a Cancun flavor. Free chips and salsa never stop. Attentive servers deliver big plates of food.
Really good food!. This independent family-run restaurant has great food, large portions (we take home plenty) and reasonable prices. It's not your chain restaurant Mexican with melted cheese slathered on everything. The flavors are interesting, the food is fresh, and the presentation is excellent. The place is a little run down (torn banquette covers) and sometimes noisy, and the wait staff does not have the best English. But it's interesting and fun. . . like a little bit of Mexico here in Columbus. I especially like the homemade tortilla chips and salsa they bring while you're waiting for your food.
BEST MEXICAN FOOD IN TOWN..
I love the small family owned restaurants. This one is great. Forget about Chi Chi's or Don Pablo's, they don't hold a candle the real Mexican food Cancun serves. I started going there several months ago and make it a point to visit aleast once a week. You'll love this place!!!!!
Oh yeah I forgot to mention, the prices are just right.
Cancun is small, family-oriented, and VERY good! All food arrives hot, and large portions are normal. My special favorites are the enchiladas (try the Cancun enchilada with the sour cream sauce - muy bueno!
Also one of our favorites - the Pollo a la Crema.
go here for great Mexican food. My wife and I have tried a number of Mexican restaurants, and feel that Cancun is by far the best as far as prices and food go. We are repeat customers, and make Cancun one of our favorite destination restaurants
