The Scene
This friendly, 62-year-old nursery has the largest plant selection in the area, as well as an extremely well-informed and helpful staff. Although it has an intimate feel throughout its indoor and outdoor areas, there are actually 17 acres worth of plants and products to browse through.
The Goods
Oakland's wide variety of trees, bushes and bulbs are priced higher than most chains, but you get what you pay for. Persnickety gardeners refuse to shop anywhere else, because Oakland's plants are said to be the healthiest and heartiest in town. A charming gift shop has outdoor and indoor touches like unique birdhouses, wind chimes, pottery and unusual toys for children.
