Editorial Review for El Vaquero Mexican Restaurant – by Lori Sutton

The Scene
Someone comes to your table right away with chips, salsa, and water. Your server soon follows. Your entrees can arrive in as little as 5 minutes, which is great as long as you don't ponder the cooking methods that allow this to happen. Usual arrival time is closer to 10 minutes, and appetizers arrive almost immediately.

The Food
You're not going to find any nouveau-fusion cuisine. This is a refried beans kind of place. But the refried beans are tasty, and so are the tacos, enchiladas, burritios, chalupas, tamales and fajitas. And it's hard not to fill up on chips and salsa before the food arrives. The Chiles Poblanos are roasted and stuffed with mashed potatoes and cheese, and then covered in tasty red sauce. A big improvement over the usual deep-fried variety.

Insider Tips

Not So Hot, Hot, Hot

The sauces are savory, and generally the spices are medium-strength. If you're looking for something with more kick, reach for the Chalula's on the table.

The only thing I'd go back for are the Margaritas. The food is no more authentic than Taco Bell. Service was quick, salsa tastes like it came from a jar. The taco shells appear to be the same kind they use at Taco Bell.

Pros: Good Margaritas

Cons: Bad Food
