Love it. Everything was totally excellent in Kikyo. Delicious food, along with a great service and atmosphere. My husband and I had a wonderful time. We highly recommend this charming restaurant

Bad review not possible!. I was just surprised about some of the negative reviews on here so I decided to leave one of my own. I am a frequent customer going here (mainly for the sushi) about once a month. I never have had a problem with service or have been denied anything I asked for. The sushi chef is very personable and yes he does talk a lot; he is just trying to lighten up the mood and is very care free. The sushi is wonderful and is made right in front of you. The sushi chef will answer any of your questions about sushi and also always has great suggestions. I love going here because I can definitely fill myself with a friend for about 50 bucks. The quality is definitely worth a try and you should go into this place with an open mind because it's an experience that will keep you coming back. If you like sushi, have a seat right at the sushi bar and enjoy freshly prepared food. I recommend the spicy scallop roll or crunchy tuna roll.

Best traditional home-cooked comfort food. My wife lived in Japan almost 3 years, I have traveled throughout Japan for extended periods over 16 times in 12+ years. Doing business, having a best friend and living with his family, doing home stays, and with a brother and and sister-in-law living there... and HERE is where we go for everyday, ordinary food done correctly and priced fairly. Akai Hana (Rest Japan) does have a good bento, but its expen$ive for what you should pay. Service is weak, I grant that. Those that have spent a good amount of time in Japan and yearnng for a katsu-don or noodle bowl fix - go here. Reservations are easily made, they don't advertise much at all, so rarely crowded. Elitists won't like it - they should go to asian-fusion restaurants like Haiku or pay big money to feel good about their food and atmosphere at Akai Hana. Out to impress friends, don't come. Want to eat like everyday an salaryman and his family in Japan? Come here now!

Great sushi chef, fresh food. Hidden Gem. The chef is friendly and willing to accomodate any request - plus he always has some of his own! I have never been dissappointed. Frequent specials in addition to wide assortment or fresh cuts of fish.

I have taken friends, clients, and family, always a good choice.

If you love Japanese, Don't Bother!. I wanted to try this place because I read some decent reviews. Upon first arrival, I peered through the windows and saw nobody. Took a seat at the sushi bar and was greeted nicely by the sushi chef. The waitresses were not all that pleasant. I ordered the sashimi appetizer, tofu with dried bonito flakes and scallions, a salmon skin roll, and grilled makerel. The fish was fresh and was served with julienned turnip and a perilla leaf, which is nice touch, as many restaurants opt out on that. The tofu, on the other hand, was not correct. They served this dish with firm tofu instead of the silky tofu. So, the texture was was mealy with the bonito flakes, eehh! For the salmon skin roll, I prefer not using smoked salmon as grilling it will give an overpowering flavor. The grilled makerel was slightly on the salty side, but overall was okay. If you want to talk about food, the menu items are obviously for American tastes. Later, I found out that the sushi chef was not even Japanese! And he talks a lot. If you want authentic, you should try Yoshi's.
