Not the best. I am a huge fan of BBQ, have tried several different BBQ joints in many different states and areas, from chains to hometown joints. Frankly, City BBQ isn't that great. Pulled pork sandwich was a good size portion for the money, but it wasn't tender. Too done. The sides were so-so, definitely not worth the price. I tried the sweet sauce, and it wasn't great. I've had a way better signature sauce at other places. I hate to critique sauces on websites like these, and the other sauces may be great, maybe I tried the wrong one....but the sweet sauce is too much like a store-bought want to be....
Love the new Westerville Store.
Local is great; pricing is good to high......sides really add cost and are single portion size. Enjoyed the peach cobbler too although it's more bread & less peaches....alittle different than the southern style I was raised on.
We cannot get enought of the BBQ Sandwiches; scrumptious!
Love the patio although it's right on Route 3 with lots of traffic.
Staff is kind and effecient....don't let the lines scare you, they move quickly and carry out business is brisk.
Friends who have used them for catering provide rave reviews for sure!
Best BBQ in town. This is the best quality bbq in town! It's cheap, tastey, the portions are large, and it's your choice if you smother it in their sauce. We also really enjoy their email coupons- they send them out for birthdays and anniversaries.
Excellent BBQ.
This place is great! I love the atmosphere, food, value. All of it! My wife and I ate here when it opened, missed it when we moved away, and are excited to be back and living close to this great place! She always goes for the Briskit, which is quite tender. I'm a pulled pork man myself, and it is so moist and delicious. The sides are great too, try the greens! (pork in them, yum!) My sister lives in Texas and I went there to visit her recently. She took me to a BBQ place there, and let me tell you, I can't wait to get her up here to try City BBQ and put the place down there to shame!
You get so much food, you will probably have leftovers. On that note, I'm off to my fridge to devour my wife's sandwich from last night!
One of my favorites!. My g/f and I visited this place pretty often for a while. She introduced me to corn pudding and I was instantly hooked! The pulled pork and chicken are both excellent! And what better than a good 'ol southern style sweet tea to wash it all down! Highly recommended!
Best BBQ in Town!. Oh..my God! After one bite of their pulled chicken sandwich you will become a regular. I had takeout and I was waited on immediately and order was up quick. Also, the sweet potatoes are to die for.
Best BBQ in Columbus for sure. Great portions, great selection, and their BBQ sauce is the best I've ever had. Take the family and enjoy getting messy.
Not so good. I dunno, maybe it is because I was reared in Texas where BBQ is close to a religion, but, there was nothing here that resembled good BBQ. The meat was more roasted than smoked, the sauce was only so-so and the sides tasted like bad cafeteria food. The so called Texas Sheet cake was anything but. It was not so terrible that I would not stop in for a sandwich if I were in area, but not good enough to drive even a block for.
Do not be mislead - Bad BBQ!. The City BBQ is not great and cannot compare to real BBQ joints in places like Kansas City, Memphis and down east in Kinston, NC. Their chicken is dry, their brisket tough and forget about their Carolina style pulled pork - they've never been to NC.
Sloppy, crowded and absolutely delicious..
The Scene
Located on strip-mall studded Henderson Road, City Barbeque isn't all that outstanding, looks-wise: Two glass walls afford a view of the parking lot, tables and chairs are standard, and only one wall is particularly decorated. But folks don't come here for the aesthetics--it's all about the barbecue, and that's reason enough.
The Food
Meats are prepared in three big black smokers just beyond the restaurant. The process takes 18 hours, resulting in pink and flavorful ribs and other meats. The barbecue sauce is outstanding--mild, sweet and tasty without being full of vinegar. (The unmarked ketchup bottles really hold barbecue sauce.) The fries are nice, long and slender with salt and pepper, a little on the soft side. Orders come on separate paper plates, and platters include two sides. Be sure to order the corn pudding, a warm, moist casserole of cornbread mix, corn and butter.
