Early morning for quiet enjoyment. Very cool. I brought my Junior girl scout troop here before we went to COSI and they had fun walking around the park looking at everything. Pretty safe even early in the morning. A few people were still sleeping in the area when we arrived but we had no problem and it was worth it to let the kids see it.
Picture yourself magically transported into the scene of an impressionist painting..
The Scene
Conceived by artist James T. Mason, this park re-creates Georges Seurat's "Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" painting using sculpted evergreen shrubbery.
The Experience
The scope of the project is impressive: 50 topiary humans, eight boats, three dogs, a cat, a monkey, a real pond and trees. While it's a stretch to envision the pond as the Seine, figures as tall as 12 feet stimulate the imagination. Though the Topiary Garden is a work in progress, it's still a great place to picnic and enjoy the chateau-style museum store catering to French Victorian tastes.
