Operating in Columbus since 1981, Opera/Columbus targets an audience of all ages, hopes to educate the community on the importance of opera and attracts many interested volunteers to help.

The Operas
Opera wasn't for everybody, at least not until now. "MacBeth" and "Madame Butterfly," sure, but "La Gran Scena"? Last year, Opera/Columbus staged a production of this all-male opera revue, complete with men in drag singing falsetto, playing it for laughs. On a more serious note, "Vanqui" is its African-American opera, depicting the slaves' flight to freedom using the Underground Railroad, complete with drums, jazz and gospel music.
