Among the '80s cover bands that smother the Brewery District is an oasis of cool, delicious jazz..
The Scene
Barrister Hall is one of the classiest taverns in Columbus--all dark, gleaming wood, subtle lighting and agreeably old brick walls. The busy bar glitters with hundreds of well-polished glasses and liquor bottles, and the narrow downstairs is crammed with tables and chairs that face the small stage. Upstairs, take a break from the band in a lounge populated with comfy leather couches and chairs, pool tables and a large, inviting bar.
Who's There
Jazz junkies, cigar aficionados and those who appreciate a fine bourbon or single-malt scotch. The crowd ranges from serious music fans to lawyer types, but everyone sports elegant duds.
The Music
Barrister's undisputed star is the Pharez Whitted Quintet, which plays every Friday to a packed house. Other notables are the New Brass Basics Band, 13 O'Clock and the Eric Augis Trio.
Cool, jazzy, low-key. Nice jazzy, cigar-smoking, laid back kind of atmosphere. Small but very stylish.
