The Tourist Factor
Did you know they brewed more beer in Columbus before Prohibition than they did in Milwaukee? The District serves two distinct tourist functions: one for the historical architecture, and the other for partying. The best way to merge the two may be to stop at the two microbreweries for a tour and taste.
The Scene
If you're looking for live bands, karaoke or a disco, they're all in the District. Strangely, the German ambiance of the area is now more Euro with the addition of Le Metropolitan, a French-style cafe that features a 42-foot replica of Paris' Eiffel Tower decked out with 1,200 tiny lights. The cafe also has a wall made of stone salvaged from the infamous Ohio Penitentiary, once a temporary home to writer O. Henry.
