Average.
Service was terrible, decor is cheezy, and the food was average at best. Best seafood in Columbus???...not sure it's even the best seafood within 3 miles of this location. Nice location, love the Short North, average food quality, quanity, and ambiance.
For an Average night out, this will work. If you want something special...keep looking.
Editorial Review by Citysearch Editors. Specializes in seafood dinners, including fish, lobster and crab, plus steaks and more. Private room for 10 to 55 people.
OK Seafood. OK seafood for Columbus, Ohio. The service is excellent as well as the ambience. However, we're dealing with a market that thinks that seafood means Red Lobster. The food at Snappers is fine, it's not stunning but it could be. The Fish Market has better entrees for about the same price. It would be a real treat for a restaurant to challenge the Mitchell establishments and go beyond what they have to offer.
A Truly Fantastic Dining Experience!!!!. This is truly a first class operation all the way!!! The staff is extremely helpful and willing to walk you through the exciting and innovative menu. The seafood is excellent!!! Expertly prepared, and not your run of the mill preparations, this is by far the best fish and seafood available in Columbus, or in Ohio for that matter!!! I made my reservation online through their website (cool), and R.J. Snappers is now my favorite dining spot in the Short North, and in Columbus!!! Parking was a bit challenging, as is true for any restaurant in the Short North, especially during the Gallery Hop, but it is located right in the middle of everything, so it is a perfect spot to dine when going to the Gallery Hop!!! We will be back very soon and very often!!
Stunningly Banal. While its probably rather difficult to procure fresh fish in Ohio, that fact does not excuse the mediocrity of R.J. Snappers. Our entrees (linguine & clam sauce, salmon), though not inedible, lacked panache, originality and distinct tastes. Weve had take away foods with more complicated flavours. The appetiser of crab cake was slightly better, but my companions extraordinarily bland soup tasted as if it had just been poured from a generic can of condensed soup. The wine list was sadly laughable, with only a handful of selections that could not be found on the middle shelf of the local grocery mart. The physical ambience wasfine by the hardly exacting standards of Columbus restaurants. Unfortunately, the experience was ruined by the surfeit of obnoxious clientele who obviously do not go to many upscale restaurants. (For as mediocre as R.J. Snappers is, I assume it markets itself as upscale.)
New Years Eve 2002. Had reservations and was seated promptly. Wife had bowl of clam chowder. Not the greatest but ok. I had the yellowfin tuna and my wife ordered the salmon which was fixed on a bed of mashed potatos with brown gravy around the plate. The tuna was excellent the salmon was different and we did not like it. NOTE: The menu was changed for this night. When I made the reservations this was not mentioned! We have been here before and have always had no complaints. Until this night.
FAAABULOUS. What a treat. The staff at R J is wonderful. Our waiter, Greg, made us feel right at home. He had us laughing the entire evening and the service was top of the line. His recommendations were right on the mark and the food could not have been any better. The filet mignon was melt in your mouth tender. We shared our dinners among the others in our party. The mahi mahi with the walnut crust was so flavorful as was the a grouper and the talapia. We would definitely return to R J's
Fish in the Short North!. Snapper's always pleases! Nice selection of different entre's, imaginative with consistant quality and service in a nice Short North atmosphere. I was sorry to see them take the Mariner's Salad off the menu, but there are plenty of other selections. Enjoy!
It's not Red Lobster, It's way BETTER!.
It is hard to find a place that does fish right. R.J. Snapper's is imaginative and very tasty. I would recommend it to anyone who would like to have a romantic dinner, and enjoys good seafood. Everyone who I have taken to dinner there has proclaimed it one of their new favorite places to eat.
Each time I have gone, I have had a different entree and they all have been good. I would recommend you try it if you like seafood and are ready for a change from the blase restaurant chains.
