Editorial Review for Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts – by Suzanne Patzer
Location
Vern Riffe, Ohio's long-time Democratic Speaker of the House, has a building named after him. It sits across from the Statehouse and is connected by an underground walkway.
Seats of Power vs. Box Seats
Housing all sorts of important offices for state legislators and their underlings, the Riffe Center might be mistaken for just another stuffy and pretentious downtown skyscraper. But someone had the foresight to establish the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts. The building contains two theater/performance spaces that are utilized by local and national groups. One space seats patrons around the stage area for a unique theater-going experience; the other is a smaller, more traditional theater with a balcony.
Hey, It's a Gallery Too
The Ohio Arts Council operates the downstairs Riffe Gallery, where a number of exhibits are held each year.
