......large wine selection if you're into that too.
Confused by Clintonville liquor laws? Quit your whining and start wining here..
How Dry It's Not
Let's clear this up once and for all. Clintonville is not dry. Only certain precincts (and stores within them) are. So Kroger's loss is Indianola Avenue's gain, because you can do more than get a drink in Clintonville. You can buy some of the finest wines in the world right here.
From $5 to $500
Not surprisingly, the best sellers are standbys like Gallo and Sutter Home. But if the occasion demands a first-growth Bordeaux, Palmer's has several on hand. They're also notable for hard to find California wines (Dominus, Ridge) but their primary asset is experience. Owner Mike Severance and his parents have been in business for 25 years and know of what they drink.
From Grape to Grain
For those uninterested in a few thousand brands of wine, they can choose from a few hundred brands of beer. These too range from the sublime (Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier) to the ridiculous (Smirnoff Ice?), and the staff is equally well-informed about them. Palmer's also sells soft drinks, mixers, ice and all manner of party supplies but is not licensed for high-proof liquor.
Diamond in the Rough.
You are definitely only going to find this place thanks to word-of mouth. It is worth seeking out though because the selection is one of the better ones I have come across. There was a a definite focus on micros and Belgians (I saw Duvel, Brugel, Chimay etc). The staff was accommodating. Overall there is plenty here to keep me busy for awhile.
They also have a fairly decent selection of wines from all over the world.
