What a great shop. I started buying my home brew supplies here a few weeks ago. Their prices are fair and often better than prices online. The staff is always helpful and friendly.

Last week I was in the shop and the guy in front of me was buying a bottle of wine. He had some questions and didn't really seem to know what he was buying. The clerk suggested a different bottle than the one the customer had selected. The clerk actually suggested a less expensive bottle because he believed it was more what the customer was looking for. An ignorant customer is the perfect chance to upsell. "You don't want that $15 bottle, you need this $30 bottle." But that isn't what happened. I rarely see this kind of honesty in retail. Good prices, honest staff, great selection... what more do you need?

The best place to find and learn about wine.. I only occasionally get into Columbus. I walked in looking for 3 dessert wines I had read about paired with chocolate. They had all three and were extremely helpful. What a great find. Stop in and enjoy the superb inventory.

Wine for the masses--without any pretense.. The Scene
Both Gentile's locations offer a wide variety of wine and spirits at reasonable prices. Each allows the wine snob or beer slob to feel equally at home looking for a fine wine. The tiny Grandview location is easy to mistake for a carry out. One half of this "wine shack" is shared with Ellie's Deli. Squeezed into the remaining space is an assortment of wines that would make any sommelier proud. Mixed among the tight aisles of bottles are signs in plain English with personalized comments on good buys and new finds. The metal support beams are plastered with old bottle labels. The Westerville location is the upscale and roomier condo compared to Grandview's dorm decor. It also features a wine bar for tastings and other special events.

Extra Service
Either place is a good destination to learn about wine without feeling inadequate. The staff at Gentiles is gentle to all customers. Owner Roger Gentile is well-known for his informative classes and wine dinners at local restaurants.
