The Scene
The Knotty Pine originally opened in 1935, and was taken over by new ownership five years ago. The décor is fairly modern, but some of the adornments reveal the bar's antiquity. It has two wood-paneled dining rooms and a barroom, as well as a healthy-sized patio. During mealtimes, you'll find more of a family atmosphere here, while nights tend to belong to drinking friends.
The Food
The house specialty is ribs, and all meats are smoked on site. There are several other good old American menu options, including burgers, homemade soups, fish sandwiches and salads. Appetizer options abound for happy-hour types.
The Crowd
Many locals spend their evenings at the Knotty Pine, but it also attracts plenty of folks from other areas of the city who are looking for a nice, friendly place to have a beer.

Ever since the new owners have taken over, they have made it a point to attempt to turn this establishment into something it is not. We went to The Knotty Pine on New Years expecting something special. Instead we were served burned oily mushrooms, burned greasy and tough asparagus, dry, tough new york strip (which I may add was supposed to be served medium-well) dry cold chicken, and cold potatos. To add insult to injury, our server was inattentive, and we ended up dropping around $80.00 for the worst meal I have ever had. Other times we have visited this place and had similar (although not as terrible) experiences, each time noting that everything is overpriced, poorly cooked, or portioned improperly. I would not suggest going there unless it is simply for a cocktail and to listen to music.
