Columbus >Giuseppe's Ritrovo
Very poor - Olive Garden quality food/ service nonexistent.
Dined at Giuseppe's on 8/6/10. Worst, worst bruchetta I have ever tasted. Imagine melba toast with unseasoned tomatoe.
A surly, memory impaired server.
A 40 minute wait for the entree.
Glasses of water only refilled upon request.
Bread, wow, ask for it or you won't get any.
The pasta/ravioli must be frozen, clearly not fresh. I had the asparagus ravioli though none were visible on the plate
When we arrived the chef was sitting at the bar. Host and hostess wander about, sit at the bar, wander about, sit at the bar, while customers sit with dishes on tables, bread plates empty, drinks unreplenished
I have no idea why this place is busy, We will never return. I'd rather eat at an Olive Garden (horror) but at least I would know why I'm eating and receiving such poor service and taste
great place if you are a regular. went there last night 4 of us for a semi celebration.service very very slow.wait staff reaches over you and your food etc to pass something to person sitting next to you instead of serving from the left and clearing from the right.water glasses were not refilled when empty.second drink order taken prior to dinner arrival came when meal was over.had asked another staff member to get our drinks because we were almost finished with the dinner and she went and got our waiter who was across the room instead of bringing our drinks when she was standing next to the bar.apparently if you are not a regular customer, hugs and kisses all around you are not as important to their establishment.at least this is the feeling my party got.that was the first and last time we will be going there.
Fair but not great. The service and atmosphere were great but I felt the food did not live up to the wonderful things I had heard. The Manhattan clam chowder was wonderful and I then followed with a so-so salad that had beets and fennel--a salad that seemed to promise a lot of flavor but fell short. My main course was Piccata which I had to request lemon to add the flavor which should have been present. My dinner companion had the linguine with clams which was really good. I will probably try the restaurant again, coming to the conclusion that there are some dishes that a restaurant excels with and some that they fall short.
Sorry - I just don't get it.. This is a very average restaurant. I see great reviews in the papers but it never converts to my plate when I visit. Food is OK... but nothing to right home about. Place is small with a feeling of being crowded together.
Fresh, traditonal Italian fare made using techiniques learned in the old country..
Giuseppe Mangano came from Italy to open this "ritrovo"--meaning "gathering place"--and gather they do for his rich Italian cuisine. The decor is contemporary yet cozy, seating 40 inside and a dozen or so on the sidewalk.
Most come for the pasta--fresh-cut egg pasta made by local folks who went to Italy to learn the traditional technique.
The spinach rollati is the house favorite: Rolled lasagna noodles are stuffed with spinach and four cheeses, sliced into pinwheels and served over Giuseppe's fresh marinara. Daily specials can get fancy. Veal picatta and marsala, saltimboca and rack of lamb are much in demand by regulars.
