Editorial Review for The Top Steakhouse – by Tracy Zollinger Turner
The Scene
It's no coincidence that the Top has been in business since the Rat Pack era--you can just imagine Frank and company huddling around the booths in the dining room, warmed by the fireplace light. A pianist and vocalist routinely perform jazz standards in the center of the space, serenading diners and bar conversationalists. A secondary dining room has large windows which, unfortunately, overlook the parking lot.
The Food
Before ordering, tables are served a cold plate of deli pickles and sauerkraut. For steak, there is no place better; the filet mignon is incredibly tender and mouthwatering. The surf and turf is also tempting, but the lobster tail can be served a bit dry. Unlike other steakhouses, all dinners come with salad and potatoes; large, basic side dishes like broccoli and asparagus can be ordered separately.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoOn Saturday and Sunday, the Top only accepts reservations for parties of five or more. Any other night, reservations can be made for groups of any size.
What to DrinkThis is the place to try red wine. While the wine list has several pages of options, the page of recommended labels has reasonably priced, more adventuresome choices.
When to GoThe Top is the favorite steakhouse of Bexleyites and the scene of many dates, graduation dinners and trips out with grandma.

Excellent East side place to eat! As a Chicagoan, I was practically raised on Arnie Morton's great steaks, but The Top Steakhouse equals excellent competition around town in Columbus. The restaurant has lived up to its longstanding reputation on the many occasions that I have taken guests there to dine. The steaks are as tender and tasty as any I've been served at many places across the country. My persnal favorite at Tops is the filet mignon. Other menu items, like shrimp cocktail, are great also. Menu specials have included delicious oysters Rockefeller and beef Wellington. The service has always been very friendly yet efficient. The bartenders make great martinis. My friends enjoy the intimate atmosphere, which includes an interesting but subtle piano bar. A full course meal tab of appetizers through dessert might seem a bit pricey, but is less than other steakhouses and worth the value for a special dining experience.

I live in New York City, where you can go to all of the great steakhouses. This weekend I had an outstanding time in Columbus, topped off by The Top Steakhouse. All the people who served and waited on us were superb, friendly, and couldn't be more cordial. The steak and ribs which my party ordered was better than any I've had at home. Looking foward to my next time in town.
