German Villiages Hole in the Wall Bar.. Being a freshly turned 21 year old I have to say being to many bars, this is an amazing hole in the wall bar, very local, very laid back, decent music (Wouldn't be my first choice, but Classical Rock can be nice when having a drink), and a nice atmosphere. I've been going regularly since!
Great neighborhood bar!. This is a great bar and is a must for hanging out in GV. Great happy hour prices, at least 5 tvs, and decorations for the holidays! Regulars hang out like good friends. Since the staff treat the place like home, if you are tearing up the place, treating other people disrespectfully, and generally being a jack***, well, you will be treated like one. So, read the other reviews with that in mind. ;)
Bartender is horrible. When this place gets a new staff, we may consider going back. The service is horrible. On top of that, Tom, the nasty bartender added drinks to our tab! Until new management, go to the Hey Hey! That is the best neighborhood watering hole.
Nasty Bartender!. The service and the bartender are the worst!! He must have somes type of dirt on the owner in order to stil have a job or maybe the owner is just as bad.
Rude bartenders.... Actually one of the worst bar experiences I ever had was in Beck Tavern, mainly because of the bad attitude of the staff. My girlfriend and I recently went to Beck and the main bartender was extremely rude to us and to other patrons. Not only did he display a bad attitude he was also extremely slow in getting us drinks because he was busy chatting with his friends. We also noticed that whenever anyone left the bar he was bad mouthing them as soon as they walked out the door. I love a good hole in the wall bar, but with service like this you are better off going anywhere else.
Gay Bashing bartender. Not a lot of options of liquor, bartender is a heckler and have heard him use gay slurs. I wouldn't suggest going to anyone.
Dark, friendly and out-of-the-way, this neighborhood bar is a great place for a quiet pint..
The Scene
Beck Tavern is tucked far back in a residential area of German Village. It's a congenial neighborhood bar in every sense of the term; there are plenty of regulars, and often nearly everyone in the place seems to know each other. Compared to other Village bars, the drinks are fairly cheap. Happy hour is from 4 to 8pm, Monday through Friday, and the tavern is never too crowded or noisy on weeknights, making it a great place to go if you'd like to have an actual conversation. On weekends, though, the place is sometimes stuffed to the gills.
The Atmosphere
The small tavern boasts some of the dimmest lighting in Columbus, which matches the dark wood of the booths and bar. An inviting corner nook by the front window can seat at least 10 people. Beside it is a decent jukebox (Hendrix, Jane's Addiction, Frank Zappa, the OSU marching band) and a pay phone in an old-fashioned wooden phone booth. Sports fans will appreciate the OSU memorabilia on the walls, the eight TVs--all tuned to various games--and the dart boards in the small room beyond the bar.
My "Cheers".
Definitely the best bar in town. This place isn't trying to be anything, which is very refreshing.
The staff always caters to my high maintainenced requests with a smile, or at the least, a wisecrack...which is what I like.
Tom and Missy, the PM bartenders, make every visit a fun-filled one. They are genuinely the most personable bartenders I've ever encountered.
Thanks guys!
Cheers!
