Great place, but strange tip policy
by saradg at Citysearch
I'm not-so-trendy, and when I go into a salon and see lots of young hip stylists, I'm always worried that they'll be snickering at me after I leave. While I suppose I have no assurances that this didn't happen, everyone was very friendly and professional. And, when I ended up needing to return a hair product I had purchased, I was able to very quickly and easily with no problems at all. The one thing that I would mention is that you should BRING CASH FOR YOUR STYLIST'S TIP. Unlike any other salon I have ever been to, you cannot add it to the bill upon checkout if you're using a credit card. I felt like a bit of a heel, because I never carry cash with me anymore. I wish they would change this policy as it doesn't seem fair to the stylists.
Style at every point

I was looking for a hair stylist about a year. At Rafiels, the first thing I liked was that the salon is open and clean feeling, and the music was appealing. It had a nice changing room with hangers for my coat and clothing and gowns to wear. The stylists are all young and hip, but very friendly. My stylist asked astute questions, really looked at my hair, and gave me a suggestion that both took into account what I wanted and what was actually good for me. She also styled beautifully. My experiences since have always been comfortable and fun, like a small vacation, and my hair looks great. I think the value is pretty good, especially considering that I always come out feeling and looking better than I did going in. Their focus on a great experience with your fabulous hair is really the selling point for me.
- Pros: Enjoyable experience, Great staff, Hip but friendly
- Cons: Products expensive, Parking
Great Job

I just moved to the area and have been trying to find a good salon. This is the first one I have been to that I really liked. They did an excellent job and listened to all of my requests. However, according to another review of the same salon on Citysearch the price was around $20. Imagine my shock when the bill came to $110 for a color and cut. To me it was worth it but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting!
- Pros: listened, friendly, good results
