The Scene
Since its days as an old ballroom theater, the venue has seen its share of wear and tear. But people don't come for the architecture. Good sight lines to the stage are usually easy to find, and air conditioning was just added in spring of 2000. When the balcony level of the club is open, the house can pack in up to 1,700 people. There is food available at some shows, but it isn't too consistent, so you may want to dine beforehand.
The Draw
In its previous incarnation as Columbus' Agora Ballroom, bands such as Jefferson Airplane and the Grateful Dead played the stage as up-and-comers. These days, the Newport books rising and established stars of all stripes of music each month, from 311 to Three Doors Down to Steve Earle.

i went to the Newport Music Hall on Nov. 2 to watch Academy Is.., We The Kings, Carolina Liar, and Hey Monday!! i was a little skeptical at first. considering that it was my first concert and i didnt know what to expect. and from the outside the building looked a little small... but boy was i wrong. as soon as i stepped through the door the atmosphere was buzzing. it was loud and rowdy! it was just an overall good time. i didnt anticipate such a wild pit.... but it was pretty violent. i got beer spilled on me. but nobody was hurt or trampled so it was all good. crowd surfing was fun but the bouncers were gay. the prices are a little pricey but the atmoshere was great. the bands were awesum and had good stage presence. and they were intimate with the crowd... expect to get a few autographs, a few water bottles, and drum sticks thrown by the band members!!!

this venue kind of grosses me out because it always seems darka nd dirty to me, even though I don't think it actually is dirty. They do get some good bands and it's right on campus so it's a great place to go if you live in the OSU area. It's a little hardcore, but the people are nice and tickets aren't too expensive, although I don't know that the venue gets too much say in that as it is.

The newport music hall on High Street in columbus is a great place to see a concert of almost any kind. It's a smaller venue (probably under 1000 people capacity), which makes it nice and intimate. The lower dance floor level is sunken down under the stage so that other people on the first floor can easily see over the heads of people in the pit. The upper level balcony is sometimes not open for some smaller shows, but is a great place to watch the show from as well. It's located near a lot of little bars and restraunts in the area, so there are many other things to to before and after the show. Security there can be a bit harsh, so beware of that.
