History Lesson
Plenty of urban lore surrounds this bar, which opened its doors when Prohibition ended. It's been said that in early years, student intellectuals wanted a place to themselves. To do so, they spread a rumor around campus that Larry's was a gay bar, which kept the general public away so brainiacs could sip suds and discuss Rousseau in peace.
The Scene
It's still fashionable to bring your philosophy books and natter over the meaning of life, and the suds are generally inexpensive enough to accommodate starving artists.
The Crowd
Larry's tends to attract grad students, grownup, perpetual students and OSU faculty. Are you a black sheep? You'll belong.
Free Verse
Larry's has also hosted poetry readings longer than anyplace else; they're held on Mondays during every season except the summer.

I called once for directions and some chick put me on hold for a good ten minutes while she talked to her girlfriends about what tatoo she was thinking about getting.. if you still want directions to the place, i'd recommend google maps .. or driving down high street till you find it / get lost and go somewhere else.

One of Columbus' Best:
Nominated for best local tradition for its Monday night poetry readings.
"Found" Poetry:
A young man brings in a newspaper clipping or some other "found" piece of writing each week, which one of the organizers reads with poetic emphasis. It's an unusual way to hear the latest about, say, the OSU football season.
