Music, Comedy, Art and Fine Drinks. The St. James Tavern is nestled in the short north's Italian Village. The downstairs is a humble pub with 11 micros on tap, 50+ bottled beers, as well as a fine selection of champagne, wine and liquors.

To date, the upstairs (The St. James Hideaway Lounge) hosts live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Not only is the atmosphere aesthetically pleasing, it is also one of the better sounding live music venues in the city. Unlike many venues in Columbus, the definition of each instrument is clear. No ear plugs necessary.

The Hideaway Lounge also hosts an Open Mic Comedy Night every Wednesday. I have caught quite a few national acts, but most comics are local up and coming comedians. Admission is free.

The St. James always has friendly patrons, a friendly staff and is a great place to to see live music, comedy, fine art or have a drink.

Handsomely crafted pub made cooler by the fact it's not in Grandview or the Short North.. The Scene
Almost in defiance of a neighborhood with more than its share of weeds and broken windows, the St. James Tavern is a beauty of a bar with floor-to-ceiling stained wood walls, glass block and a splash of exposed brick. It offers a wide selection of beer (in bottles and on tap), two pool tables and the vaguely ironic video game (Galaga).

Bring your bills
In the jukebox, $5 buys 16 plays, but ol' Abe may not be enough. The jukebox features legends (Stones, Stooges, Replacements), locals (Moviola) and ladies (two each from Ani, Liz and Tori). There are far worse ways to empty your wallet.

The Crowd
Late-20s/early-30s hepcats and kittens who may work for the Man but find life in the suburbs sickening.
