I can't comment on the move out woes yet, but I can say with my personal experience the maintenance has been pretty good at taking care of any issues I've had.
As for the "heated" pool, that is total crap. The pool is only open from memorial day to labor day and when I asked what it is heated to they said 72 degrees!! THAT IS FREEZING, so as far as I'm concerned the only way that pool is heated is by the sun.
I don't see what the point of having a heated pool is if it's only open for 3 months during the summer.
Running a scam – At first the staff seemed very professional when we turned in our application. Then downhill fast from there. Took 3 weeks just to deny us in the application process. They don't care, they just wanted the money from the application fee. They even lead us on to thinking we would be in the apartment in the next two weeks, so we turned in our leaving notice to our current land lord. Now where are we going to go? We have GREAT credit and great paying jobs! More than enough to cover rent,I can't believe this place!
They'll keep your security deposit-DONT LIVE HERE! – I would NOT recommend that anyone live in this apartment complex. Most places in Columbus have deals on security deposits, Bennington Pond usually doesn't because they have EVERY INTENTION on keeping your security deposit when you move out. I am a good tenant, pay my rent on time and have NEVER had my security deposit taken by ANY apartment complex I have ever lived in. I lived at Bennington Pond for less than a year because I took a job 2 hours away. I signed a years lease but I did not break it, I actually lived in the apartment for 9 months and it sat empty for the last three. Meanwhile, I paid rent on 2 apts, very expensive. I was single at the time, no pets and a non smoker. A friend of mine in Columbus did most of the cleaning and packing of my apt for me. I came back on the final day of my lease and deep cleaned and turned in the keys. Six weeks later I get a letter from them telling me they needed to change out the carpet because There were two spots on the carpet they supposedly could not get out(the carpet was old and thin when I moved in, they just wanted new carpet)the new carpet was $609.94 plus they found $83.00 worth of miscellaneous stuff such as dust in drawers, something left in a cabinet etc.. and minus my $300.00 security deposit I OWED them $392.94. My friend and I were OUTRAGED because we both saw the place !!! That apartment was CLEAN!! and what spot on the floor? Their nasty staff emailed me a picture of two small spots left from my sofa feet which were barely noticeable that can come out with soap and water because I had done it before myself. Unfortunately I missed seeing these spots (that's how barely noticeable they were) else I would have cleaned it myself. I ended up arguing with and threatening their nasty staff with a lawsuit and they dropped the amount down to $300.00 which left me owing nothing just losing my sec dep, but that still wasn't good enough for me. After I realized that taking them to small claims court would make me and my friend lose time off work plus travel time etc I ended up not fighting them in court but I really wish I had just based on principle. What's ironic is I have talked to two other ex-residents of BP apts and their stories were almost EXACTLY the same as mine. BP apts either made up or highly exaggerated charges and kept their security deposit as well, coincidence? doubt it. The Columbus area has so many nice apartments I would not suggest living at Bennington Pond. Also it is not the safest area, The hotel next to Bob Evans has had a lot of drug activity and they have transient types staying there because they charge by the week. Don't be fooled by these people, these apartments look nice but are not all that, there is much much better in the Columbus area (and none of the games)!
FEELS LIKE HOME – My fiance and I have been living here for a year now. We love our apartment. Our apartment is a size of a house. The maintenance staff (Randy) here is excellent. Anytime we need something to be fixed or looked at they are here the very next day if not the same day. The Parking is horrible and sometimes we have to park 2 buildings down. There have been car break ins happening lately and not having a parking space in front of our building worries me. If our alarm goes off we will not be able to hear it because our car is so far away. It is frustrating that the management staff leaves the office like 15 - 20 minutes early. The office is suppose to close at 6 and they are driving past us at 545 on there way out. We do not get off work until 5 and about the time we fight through the traffic to get home and pick up a package that was left at the office the staff is already gone early. I have just noticed this with the new staff we have now. We never had a problem with this before. Other then that we still love the place. i would recommend Bennington Pond. Although there are car break-ins that is just a given at any apartment complex :O( I will write another review when we move out. I see on here that people do not get their deposit back so we will see.
pros: Great maintenance, beautiful landscaping, spacious apartments, quiet area
cons: Staff leaving early, parking, people not picking up after their dogs.
LMAO---100% True – Everyone's reviews are 100% accurate. This company does not care about it's number one reason why they are in business in the first place, and that is the customer!! There is a 95% chance you will not see any of your deposit. The office has changed managers in the past few years more times then I can count on one hand. It seems as if no one in the office is ever happy. They should take the luxary off the sign because it's false advertisment. Go anywhere but here if you want to get true maint. free living!!!
Unfriendly Office Staff – Thanks for confirming our feelings about the nasty office staff. I thought it might just be me. Our personal scenario today, 3/30 was as follows:
We're moving sometime this summer and went to Bennington to view the model. When we left we both had the feeling that the two young ladies, one who met us at the door and the one that showed the model were very unfriendly. They showed no interest in having us move into Bennington. We had to ASK for a business card. We felt like intruders. We are definitely crossing them off our list of possibles.
What a Nightmare – I have lived here for 2 1/2 mth now and I am ready to leave...I agree with most of the things said in the other reviews. Parking is horrible for renters without garage. I do have a garage but apparently most of them if not all of them dont work properly. The remote only works if you stand right in front of it. Once you pull the car out of the garage you have to either get out the car or drive right in front of the door to close it. The apartment is self is very nice and spacious but no repairs that should have been made before we moved in were done.
Kitchen floor looks like it was a dance floor in a previous life, bathroom floors are nasty looking, you might break your back trying to close them huge windows...oh...and windows...if it rains ..it poors ...especially in both bedrooms...it smells like mold now...and I guess painting over that is their solution. I gave them my notice last Thursday that I will give them 30 days to fix it or I will terminate my lease. It's been a week and they have not respondend which probably means they dont care. For all you people who made the mistake of renting here or got takin to the bank....I am getting ready to charge them for all the BS they put us thru with this crabby place...wish me luck!!
Worst Renting Experience Ever – I hope that some of you do your homework before renting at Bennington Pond Apartments. Let me list the reasons why you don't want to live there.
1. The office staff is horrible. Just look at the other reviews. They all say the same thing. The office manager needs to re-evaluate her life. Obviously something is missing or going on there that makes her a complete nasty B****, if you know what I mean.
2. The parking is atrocious. Not only do you not have any reserved spots, people who don't need to park in handicapped spaces seem to lord over those spaces. I've seen the person who parks in front of my building in the handicapped space, get out of her car, hoist a computer on her shoulder and proceed to go around the car to the other door and grab her purse and other belongings, etc.. does this sound like someone who is handicapped? NO! I'm not handicapped, so I don't really care, but it still is very annoying. When there are no spaces in front of any of the buildings around me. I would appreciate it after working 10 hours to be able to at least park in front of my building. Not 4 buildings away.
3. The grounds are often flooded after rain. The back pond is beautiful at times, but if it rains for an hour or two prepare to have your backyard completely flooded and full of trash after the storm is over.
4. The pool is often littered with undesirables. Good luck getting any peace and quiet with your sun.
5. The complex is also littered with undesirables. There are car break ins. Someones car recently was smashed into and all of their tools were stolen.
6. The apartments don't vent well. If your neighbor is cooking something nasty. Be prepared to smell it for hours.
7. The upper apartments aren't insulated properly. HOT in the summer. COLD in the winter.
8. The office manager is a B****. Oh wait, did i say that already. Well, maybe now you'll get the point.
9. GEESE have taken over the ponds. Excriment everywhere. All year long....
Don't let the nice landscaping fool you! At first, it looks nice. After you sign your lease, they treat you very, very poorly! The management / office staff is the worst aspect. They act like they are doing you a favor by ALLOWING you to live there. They are rude and have a big attitude problem. I was always friendly, paid rent on time every time, and maintained my apartment. It didn't matter. They will also nickel and dime you to death on absolutely everything! They will do everything short of robbing you. They will even try to charge you for things that you are not responsible for. Instead of maintaining and keeping their current residents happy, they are more concerned with squeezing every penny out of you! The only upside to living there is the nice landscaping--no wonder why we're getting ripped off--they have to pay for landscaping somehow! I do NOT recommend living here. Don't be fooled!
I Loved It!!! – I loved living at Bennington Pond Apartments. Obviously the previous residents are a little bitter because they trashed the apartment and didn't get the deposit back. When I left I got my whole deposit back!!! The apartments are very nice and spacious and the grounds are kept very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The pool is huge!! I would definately live at Bennington Pond again.
