Welcoming, Open Church

by AstroBob

I signed up for CitySearch specifically to refute the negative review posted here, I would hate for anyone to not consider WUMC on the basis of one moron's opinion. (so I'll offer this moron's opinion!). I must say that the other poster certainly has interesting priorities...the first negative thing he noted has to do about the floor in the women's restroom? Since he and his partner are gay males, what the heck was he doing in the women's restroom?

Anyway, I have been a member of this church for a long time and it is a very welcoming church. I personally know the ministers - they get to know all the congregation. I have never known them to 'snub' anyone, regardless of race, creed, country of origin or, yes, sexual orientation. The congregation is presently a mixture of older members (who range from stodgy to friendly) and a younger generation of 30s-40s with kids. My wife and I (and our two kids) are part of the latter group (and I would hopefully not yet merit the 'stodgy' label. Give me a few years.). There are two services, one catering to the more traditional and another with more contemporary flavor. There is also an active program of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, etc. As of 6-09 our church is in transition with its beloved senior minister (Alan Sippel) retiring. We are looking forward to seeing what direction Rev. Garn takes us.

  • Pros: Thoughtful ministers and staff
  • Cons: None that I can think of

Worst church in the columbus area

by ColumbusGuy

I was considering joining this church, and have attended services on quite a few occassions. It seems to me that this church is what causes the stereotype that Worthington has. The church is a nice building, but needs to update the lounge a lot. They just renovated the women's restroom, and decided not to replace the floor that is coming up when you come in the church.

The ministers here are also very bad. You have the old guy that is too timid to be a preacher, and the two women that just do not belong in front of people. Admittedly, one of them is the youth minister. The older female minister though, just has no place preaching at all, and id very unfriendly. I attempted talking to her after services one day, and the minister actually snubbed me. I guess it was because I was there with my partner (I am gay).

So I will look for other churches in the Columbus area that are a little more tolerant and friendly to everyone.

  • Pros: Beautiful on the outside
  • Cons: Ignorant ministers, intolorant, stuck up congregation.
