Editorial Review for Blacklick Woods Metro Park – by Bill McComb
History
Constructed in 1948, Blacklick Woods is an enormous facility. Fifty-four acres of swamp forest are dedicated to the Walter A. Tucker Nature Preserve, a national natural landmark where wood ducks, chorus frogs and lots of salamanders can be found.
Family Fun
With more than four miles of bike and jogging trails and a two-mile hiking trail, this park provides enjoyment for the entire family. Cross-country skiing is popular in the winter and a sledding hill near the golf course is perfect for the kids. The park also has two picnic areas that offer picnic tables, grills, horseshoe courts and shelters.
Fore!
Of the two golf courses, one is a par-72 championship course and the other is a par-59 executive course; both feature beautiful wildflowers and wetlands that enhance the greens and fairways.

As a scout leader and a mother, I am always trying to find something great to do with a low or non-existent budget. All the metro parks offer this. There is a nature preserve, programs with naturalists, wonderful educational resources, etc. I especially love the once a month campfires in the summer.
Pros: free, educational, variety of things
Cons: wish more offered
