Not so good. Been there 3 times, and have spent a LOT of time in the Windy City, so will most likely not to go back. First visit, we had the dogs. Not bad, but way under spiced, actually, bland. And frozen fries? Please.

2nd visit, was the deep dish pizza. Please...a chunk of gooey greasy mess, with no taste. It doesnt even compare to the WORST deep dish in Chi-Town.

3rd visit, our worst, was the beef sandwich. I like mine dipped, which was fine, however, the gravy is watery and has no flavor. The beef itself was tasteless and tough. And even with the dip, the bottom roll was rock hard. I couldnt even finish it.

My wife ordered a tamale for an appetizer for $2, and it was served as a microwaved prepackaged product with a side of prepackaged hot sauce, just like you get at a gas station. AND, it tasted like dog food.

The dogs are just so-so, and other than that, nothing good or like Chicago in anyway.

Get the Italian Beef!!!. I just recently found this place and I was pleasantly surprised by the Italian beef sandwich. If you've had one in dowtown Chicago and are looking for the real deal here in Columbus, try this place. The service is good and I'll definitely be back.

Not what I expected!. Ok, Here's the deal. I lived in Chicago only for a short 3 years. The biggest thing about the Chi is the food. I love a cago style dog. mmm nothing better. Wholly Joes is based off of the Chicago based Portillo's Hot Dogs However, this place can not compare. Now, Joes is a resturant but A Chicago style it is not. If you've never eaten Chicago food you wont know the difference. You'll believe it great because it is different. Dont get me wrong my first visit I met the owner, very nice man but its been about two to three years since that first visit and I have not returned. I would rather fly or drive to Chicago for the real thing and Yes, Ive dont that multible times. If maybe they would try to use what everyone uses in chicago it be a great place to eat. Like the same meat and also use only the fresh ingredients. Well, thats my view on it.

Italian Roast Beef, Deep Dish pizza. poor service. The Italian Roast Beef is good. To me an authentic Chicago hot dog has to have fresh cut fries, not frozen crinkle cust ones. The pizza is good, but not spectacular. If you order pizza, the service is stupid. They give you a receipt with no number on it and then bring out the pizza calling a number? I think the waitress gets the number out of a random number generator and she looks confused when nobody speaks up. The men behind the counter barely speak English and they are the ones on the PA announcing orders are ready to confused customers. The last time the waitress didn't want to give us our pizza because we didn't know our number and we were the only ones in the restaurant. I don't think I have ever seen anything more ridiculous in a restaurant.

Food I can get at a gas station. Ate there for the very first and last time today....salad and a tamale - both were presented as something I can get at any gas station that has a small eatery in it. The salad was small for $3.25 and made the salads at Wendy's and McDonald's look like gourmet salads. The tamale - I was appalled - it was served IN THE MICROWAVE WRAPPER like you buy in the store and go home to nuke! Do you think maybe they could have taken the time to UNWRAP it, nuke it and serve it in a paper container or something?

Nope - once is enough for me.

my favorite pizza in Columbus. As a Chicago native, I can attest that this place is authentic. The deep dish pizza is mouth-watering good. I took a trip back to Chicago a few months ago and had Giordano's, and I remembered thinking I actually prefer Wholly Joe's.

The Italian Beefs are good. Not great, but good. Everyone from Chicago has their own unique concoction for Italian beef. I like my creation better than Wholly Joes, but it's still a good sandwich.

The hot dogs are authentic Chicago. Never had anything else on the menu.

wholly joes good but not perfect. We have lived in Chicago area our entire lives. Yes, Wholly Joes is good, but not perfect. Yes, the ingredients come from Chicago "area" but don't compare to the Chicago area local pizza places such as Home Run Inn or Giordanos. The Italian Beef definitely does not compare to places back home. Those of you who want to open up a Chicago Hot Dog/Pizza place can also do so by contacting suppliers in the Chicago area. It's the sausage and sauce that make the difference in Chi Town pizza. We need more places here in the Columbus area. We may do so ourselves.

Giordanos and Home Run Inn both can be ordered and delivered frozen. The best beef can be ordered from carms beef. They have a carms web site.

Try these before you rave about Wholly Joes!
