Their new restaurant on Sawmill road has a very nice atmosphere, with plenty of open space, unique architectural details, including lovely stone work, vaulted ceilings, Thai artwork and a refreshing waterfall at the entry. Their signature Thai dishes are the best. Our favorites are the Tom Yum Goon soup and their Panang Gai Chicken with added green beans. Their Pad Thai is also very tasty and of all their foods, we feel these three are the most consistent and most tastey of the Thai dishes. Once your find your favorites at this restaurant, we believe you will also find it to be a good value for Chinese/Thai dining.
New location not up to par.
The old location was wonderful. Consistently good. We looked forward to the new place. First, building is dark and doesn't look Asian at all. Looks like a remodeled steak place inside.
Second, food was just plain poor. We've had better at a wok place at 1/3 the price. Pad Thai was mediocre, and it was usually wonderful farther south on Sawmill. My husband's dish had lots of poor, fatty pork in it, and he didn't like the flavor overall. Server couldn't understand English. Kitchen was slow.
We were sorely disappointed in our first experience at the new location. Hopefully the manager will read this and realize they must improve. We don't intend to return. It's too bad. They were once really good.
New Restaurant. I was thrilled to drive down Sawmill Parkway and see what looks like a new restaurant almost to completion! It is near the intersection of Seldom Seen Rd. Because their food is so delicious, especially Tom Ka Gai and Chicken Phad Thai, I crave it a lot, especially in the cold days of winter. The wait staff are efficient and attentive, and I've always found the owners to be kind and gracious and remember their customers, even if a long time has elapsed. They are extremely accommodating. The biggest con has been the dying, depressing strip mall they are located in. Now, with the beautiful new restaurant, it will be a 100% pleasure to go there for dinner!
Over priced sugar fast.
I love thai food for its fragrance, texture and delicate balance of taste. The food at thai orchid was overly sweetened tongue offender. The appetizer we ordered was a big heap of white crispy noodles mixed with some tomato based sauce, called Maggie. If you like this dish, go buy yourself a bottle of Maggie hot & sweet sauce at any ethnic store with a bag of white crispy noodles and make it yourself. It's much cheaper.
The thai fried rice we tried was also drenched in Maggie sauce and tasted sweet rather than savory as you would expect from a fried rice. Unfortunately, there was little thai fragrance. They should call this dish a Maggie rice.
The other dish we tried had beef and green beans in brown-red glaze. I can not remember its name, but I do remember it being incredibly sweet. The flavor would have worked so much better and I might have actually enjoyed this dish, had it been less sweet. The sweetness completely overpowered other flavors. It would have been also very nice if the dish had more beef than the green beans, but it was the otherway around.
The foods were expensive and were not worth the money.
Service was sub-par. My friend's utensils were dirty and needed to be replaced.
The decoration and the ambiance of the restaurant is obnoxious. Purple neon lights? Seriously?
Save your money and try some other thai restaurant.
Best thai in Columbus!.
This place absolutely has the best thai food! Phad thai is excellent, Peanut sauce which you purchase as a side is fantastic! riendly quick service for take-out and a discount too!
Highly recommend for the thai food lover!
Excellent Thai (and not just for Columbus!).
Thai Orchid is the star attraction in a dying strip mall just north of 270. (Honestly, it'd be the star attraction anywhere... it's fantastic!) If you love great Thai food, you will be frequenting this place often. It passes the "Phad Thai test," and then some. The menu is huge, and most everything is available for lunch. There are plenty of vegetarian options, and the dishes can be customized for those with dietary restrictions. The service is very prompt and polite. The place is always busy, but I've never had to wait for a table. There's even a discount for take-out!
A word of warning: call ahead for their hours. They're only open during peak hours, and sometimes close for stretches at a time around the holidays.
Great Thai!. If you like coconut milk, I would highly recommend the tom ka gai soup. It is so very delicious. They have a full bar. They are usually pretty full, although we never make reservations and never have to wait. Service is usually very good. Nice atmosphere.
thes best thai food ever. This place is unreal. I've been eating there for 20 years and it's never changed. The General Tso's is the best I've ever had hands down. the service is amazing, the staff is friendly and the prices very reasonable. check it out. it till become a staple in your househould.
Not recommended. My main disappointment with the restaurant is with its racism. We were not invited in like the others. Me being an asain I felt my family was treated very differently from the customers on other tables. My husband requested a thai omlet outside the menu which he loves, but we got priced like $15.00 for a plate. Well at the end we ended up spending $43.00 for the dinner and I came out very hurt. This experience was in Oct '06. Since then, I have never visited the restaurant again and I tell all my friends not to go there.
Not the best thai food.... Thai orchid didn't meet my expectations. Having eating thai food my whole life I was expecting it to "bring me back home". But unfortunatly it didn't do that. The service was great, but the food wasn't as great; it was edible. It was pretty pricy also and you didn't get much at all. If you're looking for some great thai food then Bankoke on refugee rd towards 104 is great. Or Asian paradise on 256, going east towards pickerington, has some great food also. So far those are the only two places that I've found to have great thai food.
