The Scene
The blink-and-you'll-miss-it storefront in quaint downtown Delaware belies the size of the store within. The shop is narrow, but goes on seemingly forever. There's a mind-boggling amount of clothing in here, hanging on racks, folded up in trunks and tucked into dresser drawers. The best part is Betty Greene, the 70-year-old proprietress who looks and acts 20 years younger. She's helpful without being pushy and she really knows her clothes.
The Goods
Dresses, skirts and blouses from the 20s through the 90s line the walls. She also has a nice selection of coats, including furs, leather and wool. Finish your outfit with hats, belts and shoes. Lacy underthings can be found in dresser drawers. There are several cases of gorgeous jewelry, including rhinestones and bakelite galore. The men's section is small, with a rack or two of jackets, shirts and robes.

I love you Betty! I have family in OH and when visiting Cols. I always make a special trip to Delaware just to check out her latest stash. In fact, I have made created several devotees of my visiting friends. Believe me, it doesn't get better than Betty...
Pros: From a vintage scouter, this is THE gem

Captain Betty's was far better than I ever imagined. The variety of clothing, jewelry, purses, belts, and hats is incredible. The clothing isn't cheap, but reasonable. The woman who runs it was helpful and I didn't feel she was rude at all. She is a character however and may say what she thinks to other employees in the store. I didn't feel that she was too pushy but offered to help me with whatever I was looking for. As soon as I left I couldn't wait to come back in with my room mates.
Pros: Selection, Service, Location
Cons: Cramped, Pricey, Only open mid-day
