Best Mexican Restaurant in Town. Location: Next door to best theater in town, the Gateway. Park in the secure parking garage for $1 or (like me) park for free in the neighborhood.

The food is fun. The restaurant is a good place to go for laughing and talking loudly--a lot of others are doing the same.

Good alternative to the crowded bars surrounding it, good for couples.. I have been down to the Gateway area a few times on dates and this is usually where we end up. My girlfriend and I both used to do the loud crowded bars in the campus area, but have since then become a little more mature (not old! we are 26) So we start out at the other bars and end up at Mad Mex when those get packed. The hostess is always very nice and usually very good looking. We are promptly seated and I have come to the conclusion that they seat people based on their group. For instance, we are always given a more private booth with other couples in our area and louder groups are seated in another area. Food is nothing special, but we don't really go there for that. Drinks are average priced. Lighting is dim in this restaurant, which I like, but avoid if that isn't your thing.

Eclectic Mexican menu!!. Very interesting menu!! I had the chicken chimichangas, which featured a mild red pepper sauce. Very good but it hardly had anything in it. The portions were right-sized at a good price -- not the insanely large mountains of food you get at some places. They also had a large assortment of gourmet burritos and lots of microbrews. Great bars with lots of flat screens. Fun atmosphere at a convenient location on the High Street strip.
