Overpriced Ohio State University Bookstore. I am a student at OSU and I buy my textbooks used off of various websites online. The OSU bookstore charges way too much for their used books. Typically the books are in horrible condition yet you pay only 25% less than the price of a new book. Certainly, one sign of being an educated person would be to refuse to purchase books at such inflated prices. Honestly, the people responsible for setting the prices must have utter contempt for the students, especially when they charge you a nonrefundable acceptance fee of $100, which was 8% of my student income at the time (I am a transfer student). I had to sell my car and go into debt in order to go to school yet the school continues to soak people like me for more and more money. At least they could have the decency to provide fair prices for students that need books for classes. I know the way free market competition works, this is a review to warn students about wasting money on inflated prices. The best thing to do is find out what books you need and search for them online. You will save a lot of money. If you want to be social and go to the bookstore to have a chance meeting with people, go ahead They hire plenty of students and require that they have good customer service skills to make you feel all cozy while shopping away. But if you are here at OSU to learn and to do so without leaving in a huge hole of debt, save your time and buy your books used from other students like you.
