Horrible Customer Service.
I was there with my 4 year old daughter to pick up groceries for dinner like we have done countless times.
My first stop was at the seafood department to buy salmon burgers. As soon as the person working there saw us he went to the back room instead of servicing us, we waited and when he came back I asked him "one of each" of the salmon burgers. There were two types on sale Lemon Thyme and Teriyaki. He handed me one and goes to help another customer. When I ask him; I asked for "one of each" he rudely tells me "you’ve got to speak clearly". And I said I did, and he said no you asked for one. I was very upset and told him next time I will be sure to avoid him. And he says "you do that" and proceeds to sarcastically tell me to have a good night.
If he did not hear what I said he could have said “I did not hear you” even “you need to speak up”. “You’ve got to speak clearly” means entirely different thing. In addition typically people ask you if “you need anything else” before moving on to another customer.
Thinking this is an anomaly I decide to say something. Honestly I thought I was doing them a favor.
So I decided to let the Store Supervisor on duty know. I apologized for complaining and told her the story as I’ve stated above. She heard my story and called the team leader on duty; I believe his first name is John. As I began to tell him what happened he started to look at me with a "so what" attitude. He interrupts me and says he does not see anything wrong and that the person in seafood I am complaining about is his best employee. I explain to him that I have been shopping at Whole Foods since it opened and on average me and my family shop here at least twice a week and I never complain. He told me well our employees don't stand and wait on customers. If he said he didn't hear you he didn't hear you. Seeing this is futile and quickly becoming even more aggravating than the initial incident, I walked away saying "never mind".
As I am leaving, the Store Supervisor on duty who heard this situation handed me Joe Gallo’s business card and asked me to write him a letter. Joe Gallo is the Associate Store Team Leader for the store. I have emailed him the same night this happened and have not heard back.
Since the incident, I did some thinking about why we go to Whole Foods. The one thing I come to is the perception that it is an honest business; good to the environment; good for the community (for example fair trade and local products) and good informed customer service. This experience has shattered all of these perceived attributes I have come to associate with Whole Foods. As far as “Organic” products I can get them from Giant Eagle; Trader Joe; The Andersons and Krogers.
The last thing I expect is to get insulted by one of their employees and for the Team Leader to make me feel that my issue is imagined.
My advice to anyone reading this is save your money and stay away. This brand image they built is very compelling but further from reality. You can get the same products from another store with less aggravation.
I know you will never see me or my money there again.
Things you CAN'T find anywhere else...attleast not together!. This place has amazing selections. They have fresh made coffee..you can select your own fresh coffee beans! They have wood fired pizzas made right in front of you! They have a wide selection of amazing gelato. But most of all they have a wine tasting every Friday night. For 5 dollars (four the next time when you bring your glass back) you get a wine glass and samples of 5 wines and 5 foods. They are all amazing! Then you can buy a bottle of wine and some fresh food or dessert and chill right there in the store! it is true you can get some of their products cheaper other places..and I do...but you can't compare the uniqueness of this place to anything around here!
Good News/Bad News. For Thanksgiving we ordered a Turkey with the brine package and did that - resulted in best turkey we ever had! Simply wonderful. And the Brine package website had an easy to follow video. However, we also ordered the roasted brussel sprouts and creamed spinach as "extra" sides. Both were perfectly horrible; absolutely inedible! Both were "raw", tasteless and no one could chew or swallow them. Worst ever! we are a famil of cooks and would be pleased to instruct you on how to do the veggies. Turkey A+ however!
Just OK. There is a reason why Whole Foods earned the nickname "Whole Paycheck." Man, this place is very expensive. The food is good, but frankly, you can buy basically the same food anywhere else now. I do purchase a vitamin that I like there, but not too much else. Go to trader Joe's if you want organic bargains.
Overall a good experience. Excellent products.. The customer who complained of bad service did not elaborate. The employees were courteous and didn't look like they hated their job (like many other grocery store employees). The produce was very fresh and tasty. Their pizza and gelato was awesome. Some of the prices are higher but many grocery stores don't have these products. I went here specifically for vegetarian frozen meals and I found them (I wish they had more of the brand I like). My only complaint is the other customers. They would just zoom by or jostle you instead of politely asking you to move. It was Sunday afternoon so I didn't see what the hurry was. Overall I like Whole Foods but would only buy specialty food there, not everyday stuff you can get at the run of the mill grocery store.
Treat the body like a temple at the country's first national certified organic market..
In Short
Whole Foods is a vegetarian's dream grocery store, with a focus on natural and organic goods and a gargantuan selection of fruits, vegetables and vegan products. But carnivores won't feel neglected, as stores also boast a vast selection of top-quality meats, poultry and fish. Also expect fresh-baked goods, housewares, a floral department and a well-stocked vitamin and personal-product section. Deli offers hot and cold prepared foods and artisanal cheeses.
Bad service and way too pricey. I will never go back to whole foods even though they are opening up one closer to my home! I waited forever in line and it was about double the price from kroger. I ended up getting Country Fresh Foods and I love it. It's way cheaper and a better product than whole foods. This is not the place to buy organic food!
