Tips for Animal Hospital of Polaris

April 05, 2013

I DO NOT recommend this establishment.

After a 3 day boarding, a white maltese is returned yellow, covered in urine, and his bed is soaked and crusted in urine, along with feces underneath the internal pillow. INCREDIBLE.

I am more troubled that others have had this happen and complained over a year ago, and apparently nothing has been done to mitigate this issue. I would also warn folks that they have vaccines you must get prior to boarding. No other facility in the state that we could find requires these, and they come out to about $100.

I appreciated the refund for boarding costs, but would prefer not having the experience. I can't recommend an establishment in the animal care business who did not take care of our pet for a short 3 day period.

Animal Hospital of Polaris is great! They are not our normal vet, but I had to bring bothf our dogs in this am for some issues. The staff was very accomodating and wonderful. We will be back!

Should be reported to Animal Control. Let me start by saying I didn't want to give this place any stars but this site is requiring me to put something. We brought our dog here to be boarded for a week. We were returning one day early so we called that morning to let them know we'd be picking her up that evening. When we picked her up, the front desk worker told me I was paying for 6 nights and a bath and gave me my total. They brought my dog out and she looked wet so i figured they had just bathed her but when we got her in the car we realized that was not the case. What looked like wet fur was urine soaked fur that had sat so long it was dry. We brought her home and gave her a bath and the water ran yellow. It was horrible to think that our dog had been sitting in her own urine for what seemed to be several days. My husband took the receipt and headed right back. They said she was scheduled for a bath the following morning but since we came early she didn't get one. Yet they still charged us. Their resolution was to offer to credit our $20 for the bath and to give her a bath for free. Seriously?? No thank you! Even the manager couldn't offer any more and they were less than apologetic. The following two days our dog suffered from a cough and once that went away she started suffering from diarrhea which we are still trying to cure. Please, take my word, DO NOT BOARD YOUR DOG HERE!!!!!

They have been GREAT. I have nothing but positive comments about the staff and the doctors. I had my dog in who after I took her home had a reaction to the shots given. They stayed late for me and even called me the next day to see how she was doing. Unheard of...

I also have a bearded dragon and they were upfront and honest about not specializing in the care of dragons but the vet got on the phone with me, did some research and called me back with answers.

She offered to exam my dragon but gave me the name of a vet that specializes in this. I was impressed and do not think that it is all about the money with them.

Any vet visit is expensive, they on both occasions were upfront with the cost before they treated my animals. Animals are expensive and I think people dont take that in account before they buy them.

If there is a question ask for the price before the appointment, I am confident that my animals get the care they need, and as a vet it is their job to recommend the best care that can be given. The ultimate decision maker is you. I don't put a price on mine.

Upsold like a used car lot. I took my dog in to get neutered and they had a list of charges that were "necessary" for the safety of my dog. Now mind you, other vet's don't charge for, or perform, ECG's, Laser Treatment (Electrosurgical Cauterizer), laser hair removal, but these guys stated it was a standard of care.

What really sent me over the edge is that they agreed that an ECG was not necessary two months ago when they put my dog under for neutering (which they had to cancel because they found a staff infection), but when I brought my dog in the second time, the charges were mandatory. Either they are incompetent or a rip off, because you don't waive something one time and then state that your dogs life is threatened if you don't do it two months later.

The last thing I will mention is that they have a sign in the lobby offering to save 10% on your day's charges if you post a review online. I would read the positive reviews that are posted with skepticism, at the very least.

Each Veterinary Practice has a standard of care for which they provide professional services and recommendations to you and your pets. For procedures such as surgery we perform mandatory pre-anesthetic bloodwork, ECG and an IV catheter. These safety measures keep our pets in good hands when they are under anesthesia. I apologize that the importance of these services were not better explained to you. It is never our intent for owners to be surprised by treatments or prices.

Poor customer service, no response to concerns. Stay away!. We all have options where we take our pets (and money). Choose somewhere else. I assume the care they gave my pet Dwarf Hamster was fine, but the way they administered services was surprising. No one conferred with me before services were given, at no time were costs discussed and I was shocked at the bill when it was finally presented to me.

The worst part was that when I sent a personal email to the Doctor herself explaining my concerns (in a calm and rational manner) it was ignored. I responded with a "poor" review to their emailed survey and asked for someone to contact me...nothing. I think this place is hoping that there are enough new pet owners in Lewis Center that they can continue to make money off of new patients. We will never go back, not because of the price or service, but because it is obvious they don't care what you think (after you have paid the bill of course).

Very, very, very expensive place!. Make sure you bring someone to drive you back home , because you will be without arm and a leg when you leave this place.

My dog spent 2 nights there hooked on IV fluids. They gave him antibiotics for those 2 days and did 2 basic bloodwork tests. Total $1,350!!!!!

Unbeliavable!

After 2 weeks I took him to another vet for the same treatment( IV fluids and antibiotics for 2 days)= $320

I took him to OSU after, since both of these places didn't have a clue what was happening with my dog.

At OSU he had exploratory surgery, and spent 3 days in the hospital with all post op procedures for $2000.

Animal Hospital of Polaris is in my opinion the most expensive vet in Columbus!
