Blackbird Bistro

Local, Seasonal, and Organic Flavors

  • West Seattle?s Neighborhood Bi
  • Dinner Served Daily
  • Breakfast Served Sat-Sun

West Seattle welcomes the latest addition to its flourishing California Avenue as the new Blackbird Bistro opens its doors to Seattle diners. Blackbird brings a New American Bistro style cuisine to the table, placing focus on local, seasonal and organic produce, along with natural-fed meats, poultry and Northwest seafood. This conscious cuisine, coupled with a warm and inviting atmosphere, makes for a delicious, enticing and socially aware dining experience that takes advantage of each season's best offerings.

Awash in hues of sage and robin's egg blue, the interior is cheery in the daytime, moody and romantic at night. The 110-seat room features mahogany booths and tables and a beautiful 15-seat dining bar flanking the open kitchen. The cozy lounge is an ideal spot for sipping a hip cocktail, and outside lies a wrap-around patio.

Editorial Review for Blackbird Bistro – by Anna Roth

The Scene
White mesh curtains reminiscent of mosquito netting divide the big mahogany booths at this cheerful California Avenue restaurant. Inventive light fixtures and pastel walls lend the space a comfortable, living room-esque feel, while the dramatic backlit bar adds some flair. A local family crowd in jeans and fleece vests comes in for the food and the atmosphere--the bistro makes nice night out without seeming stuffy.

The Food
With a concentration on local, seasonal and organic, the menu has a lineup of simple yet flavorful dishes. Try the ahi tuna appetizer--medium rare pepper-crusted ahi on a bed of calamari and mushrooms smothered in citrus white wine sauce. Main courses include pan-fried chicken, finished with a sweet honey chili glaze, and the rich, oily grilled ono fish steak served on savory polenta squares. A slice of the not-overly-sweet mascarpone cheesecake finishes the meal.

My girlfriend and I had dinner here on Wednesday and it was fabulous. She had the Blue Cheese Chicken Roulade and I chose the ravioli. Her chicken was perfectly cooked and was served with really interesting but tasty mashed potatoes. My ravioli was good but nothing compared to the kale and other greens served on the side - delicious. Even our house salads were perfect with incredibly fresh ingredients. The atmosphere was warm and the service outstanding. I can't wait to go back.

My partner dine at Blackbird at least once per week, and we've yet to have a meal that was less than great. The service is invariably friendly without being TOO friendly, and on occasion the chefs knock one out of the park--so try items on the fresh sheet if you've been there a few times. My favorite feature of "the bird" is how veg-friendly it is. Items that are vegan (or can be made vegan by simply ditching the parmesan) are noted on the menu with an icon, and there are always a couple vegetarian dishes that are very "foodie" and nicely done. Closing thought--the atmosphere manages to be funky, cozy, relaxing, sophisticated, and welcoming, all at the same time.

Pros: Vegan options, fab service, awesome food

Cons: None
