The Metro Park that makes you feel most like you've gotten well out of town and into the wilderness.. The Grounds Highbanks has more than 1,050 acres of mature forest, eight miles of hiking trails, a wonderfully informative nature center, ample space for picnics and grand views that you might not expect to discover in Central Ohio.
History Lesson Highbanks is named for the 100-foot shale bluffs that the park is centered around, along the Olentangy River. There are multiple scenic views, and the primary observation deck has been designated as a National Natural Landmark. You can find it by following the signs to "The Overlook."
Activities Bird lovers can do some watching here at a pond or visit the Raptor Center to see hawks and owls that have been rescued by the Ohio Wildlife Center. Canoeing, fishing, in-line skating, biking, sledding and cross-country skiing are permitted in designated areas of the park.
