Unique and a DEAL.
Crescent Bakery has some very unique breads and rolls that are quite good and authentic Japanese. The price is impossible to beat as everything is very inexpensive. The selection is nothing like in Japan though. Unbelievably, the best bakeries I have ever been to were in Japan. Their mastery of French cuisine with a twist is quite incredible. There is another little Japanese bakery in the same shopping center, Ichiban, which is just as good but a little more limited in selection plus carry out only. They make a sticky rice, pork, mushroom contraption steamed in what I think is a banana leaf called Chimake (spelling is not correct but then I am not Japanese so forgive me) which is out of this world. Heat it in the microwave for 30 secs before eating

Unique Japanese bakery and grocery that features perfectly square loaves of bread..
In Short
"Beautiful Nature. Pure air. Enjoy your experience," reads a sign at Crescent's entrance, while another offerrs a polite Japanese vocabulary lesson. Clerks call "Hai!" to shoppers while selling bean curd buns, perfectly square loaves, hotdogs-in-a-brioche, tea, preservative-free breads, Amish-made jam and imported soft drinks. One of several international restaurants and food stores in the Kenny Centre Mall, Crescent also offers lunch from 11:30am to 2:30pm; across the way, a Japanese gift shop carries attractive sushi and saki sets and cute Sanrio stuff.
